Hey Blue502

I see you have a couple Oldsmobiles. What kind of shape is the 68 Hurst Olds in? Would love to see a picture of it. My dad has a 68 4-4-2 that he let me use in our local cruise a couple of times, don't see many of them around. Actually I don't see any around. That Hurst Olds must be rare as hell.

I've got most of it restored, but I haven't gotten to the paint yet. I have (had) the best 68 Hurst/Olds site on the web until last week when my old provider sold us off and deleted my site. I'll give you a link in this here thread when I get it back up. There were 515 built, if that gives you a clue. It ran 12.98 @ 105.11 the first weekend after it was new, totally as off the showroom, except for a set of cheater slicks. Mine was purchased new by my aunt and uncle, and I purchased it in '91 from my aunt after my uncle passed away. It is all matching #'s down to the waterpump, carb, radiator, coil, master cylinder, etc. I am doing a concours restoration on it, but have been hampered lately by a lack of place to work on it.

Man that sounds like a hell of a car. It's an automatic right, heard once that there was only one 4spd ever built in 1968(Hurst Olds). Don't know if that is right or not. I learned how to powerbrake with my dads 442 when he would let me use it, lots of fun till he told me to get my own damn car to destoy.

You are correct about 1 manual tranny H/O. It is owned by Jason Watson (Doc Watson's son). There was actually another one with a manual tranny, the original silver H/O prototype (not to be confused with George Hurst's black and gold original concept) that was destroyed in a transporter truck accident on the way to a GM exec meeting. No one counts that car in any of the the production figures. So far it appears that there is a distinct possibility that my H/O was the last one produced in '68.

On a semi related note, Modern Musclecar had a thing last weekend about the entire history of Hurst, from the Scrambler, to everything in between... really cool show, if I had thought about it I would have taped it...
