5 speed for conversion

Looking for a 5 speed, preferably with the goodies needed to swap in place of my existing 700R4. To go in an '87 IROC w./ LB9 engine.

Something in/near SoCal preferred.

Thanks!

Hmmm - I hadn't thought about a boneyard. Maybe I'll take a quick look this weekend.

Ron, can you leave me a phone number to reach you? Thanks.

hey smith, i went to that website and confirmed what i already knew. the junkyards sell the non-world class 5 speed transmissions (trans only) for 450.00 to 600.00. maybe if you knew something about these cars you would know a WC 5 speed core is 450.00. good transmissions are 750.00-900.00 without any of the other parts.

5 speed conversion

Onebinky (Matt) had a complete 5 speed set up off a car he parted. Located in MI. He shipped a couple heads to California so he probably can help you out. He was asking 400.00 for eveything including pedals.

What is the difference between a WC and a regular (?) 5 speed?

the regular 5 speed came behind motors with low horsepower (can handle about 250 max). the WC was behind later model 305's and in stock form are capable of handling about 375-400 HP.

The WC never came behind a 350 and handling horsepower is not the problem, it's the torque and/or hard launches and powershifting. Both the non-WC and the WC behind a 350 will break if you are hard on them, but both can last a long time if you treat them right. I had a non-WC behind my 350 and it worked fine.

the only trans that will hold up to any amount of power all the time b/c u can break anything. is a full built drag tranny.

you don't need a full built drag tranny to handle 400 hp!!!! JEEZ, think before you speak, no offense, but duh!!! 4 bangers are running these #'s and are everyday streetable, why wouldn't our cars and trannys hold up to it? there are plenty of people on this site alone that pack that kind of power with stock trans. and drive their cars everyday. a full out drag tranny wouldn't be worth driving on the street either unless you just pulled your car out to smoke someone.

foreign cars are running alot more then most of you *******s could even amgine with there internals. nmone of them let you people know what there running and how often they are putting in new tras and new clutvhes turbos etc. so you need to think before you speak.
