Not bad output, but too blue for me.
If you are talking about the ebay lens for the firebirds, then sun fading shouldn't be an issue since I don't pop my headlights up till the sun goes down.

Ever get these aimed right out/further out & a video of it?

My quest for Hi/Lo HID projectors as hit a roadblock, as far as legality goes. H4s are legal for motorcycles in the USA, but not legal for cars. So I could do a H1 and the motorized cut-off shield for Low/Hi function, but still only at 35w output for the Hi beams. To get the 35w Low/55w High, I need H4s...Which technically are not legal in the USA.

Re: DDM HID Headlight Kit Install (Trans Am)

From what I've been reading, says that the light output of the filaments in H4s wouldn't pass USA standards, so the H13 was created. Essentially a USA-version of the European H4, but H4s were approved in 1992. What I had read before, said that H4s weren't US-legal.

Only difference seemed to be the positioning of the filaments & the lack of the shield in te H13s that the H4s use.

We sell h4 bulbs at my work, granted that just because we sell it doesn't mean it's not illegal, but just throwing that out there.

You really should have kept reading, before you posted.

Yes, H4s were illegal in cars until 1992. After that, they were approved. And I already said that in a later post, yet you were so quick to point out that I was wrong about H4s being illegal. People should keep reading, before posting to dismiss something somebody else said.

Lol I agree with you, tint is illegal, exhaust is illegal, lights are illegal, I like it, cops don't bother me so I don't mind haha. Thankfully no inspections of any kind in indiana

Re: DDM HID Headlight Kit Install (Trans Am)

But H4s have been legal in cars since 1992, so your OK now.

I'm wondering now, because the Hi/Low projectors I found that should fit use H1 bulbs. So the same light output is used for Hi & Low. Just that part of it is blocked off for Hi Beam output. Pics do show it to be pretty impressive though.

Sorry, I simply misinterpreted what you said. Now after reading again it makes more sense to me lol. I read it. as that they had been approved, but no longer were so my mistake. Sorry, it's been a long 16 hour work day.

Didn't mean to seem to be an ahole or come across as trying to prove you wrong just simply saying that since they are sold publicly that you could argue that point if they gave you a hassle about it. Again, my apologies

LOTS of things are sold for cars, that aren't (street) legal. So that argument would be pointless. You'd still get you ticket!

91/92 'birds have the same sized headlights as Camaros, 82-89 'birds have bigger lights. So you just need different housings for each, but that has nothing to do with the HID ballast setups.

Re: DDM HID Headlight Kit Install (Trans Am)

Ugh.....

Very bright to oncoming drivers, but doesn't help you. Might even blind them & make it for dangerous for you.

And wile it does make the ground very bright for 20ft, that doesn't help with seeing things down the road....At 60mph!

And what's up with all that scattered lighting? Looks like it is being shot through a prism or something.

Please read what I posted above......Post #81

Besides...FX-R is 5.50" F45 (there is no FX35) is 5.45" A whopping .05" difference isn't even worth thinking about. Then since they use a DS2 bulbs, those adds even more depth to them.

The 4.92" is the shortest. I have spent the last couple of months working on it. I'll let everyone know when they come in & I test fit them.

OK. The way you had it worded, I read it as sold by TRS, not a used part from a junk yard or salvage reseller.

Those look pretty big anyways & harder to fit (odd shaped flange) in a sealed beam-style headlight housing. How big are they & do you have them in a 'bird flip-up headlights, or converted to fixed headlights?

I'll buy my brand new units for less, before I buy used items. And those look kinda big & an uneven mounting plate anyways & harder to fit in a 'bird light housing.

It looks like my projectors might be as simple to put in, as popping off the glass lens, putting them in the H4 bulb flange (designed to fit in a H4 flange wit a nut type back) & putting the lens back on. No way to know until everything is here in my hands.

I put them in an 04 Trailblazer .. and just happens to be I got them from the retrofit source... ... they looked new to me...

If they aren't in a flip-up headlight car, then (sorry) but your info is useless. Length is the big hurdle for flip up headlight cars.

I understand that fearless leader, space is also taxed on a trailblazer headlight... I already have an idea of how I am going to do the retrofit, but haven't actually done any measurements on my bird... so once I do the retrofit I will post... btw don't hold your breath as it will be a while...

Your "fearless leader" comment was totally uncalled for......

I'll have my parts in by late next week & the fitting will start.

I was just asking the measurement of the projectors you used, not of your 'bird.

... they are a tad under 5 inches in depth if I remember.... don't know if you are familiar with hidplanet, they have great resources... a lot of useful information...

***NOT SURE THOUGH ON THE 5 INCHES.. IT HAS BEEN A WHILE...

looks like a solid projector...
when using the projector housings..is it powered by any thing? or is it just a lense that chills there with the bulb inside?

Who & which ones are you asking about?

The pic I posted shows that it is a true Hi/Low projector, wit a motorized cut-off shield in it.

no..that keeps glare down if aimed correctly.ive re-aimed mine since the last pics and the glare is minimal but if i was to take those off, it would be horrendous..worse than the above pics.

You can get the ones like my outer True HID light but be prepared to pay for them over 500 bucks!
