Re: carb swap wiring

This has been covered a gazillion times - will serve you well young Jedi!

There's also an article in the stickies at the top of the carb forum.

But - everything on the pass side wiring harness is all computer stuff - so it can all be disconnected and it all tucks into the pass side fender well. There are 2-3 wires that run from pass side harness to driver side of car via the harness that runs over the tranny on back of motor (things like wire from ECM to fuel pump relay and to fan relay) - these you'll have to fish out of the loom.

I assume you've gotten a RETURN style regulator for your in tank fuel pump or else removed the in tank fuel pump, have gotten a HEI vacuum advanced distributor, and have determined a method for locking up the torque converter if its an automatic? And you need to make sure if its an automatic car to get and use the TV cable adapter appropriate for your carb!

Re: carb swap wiring

what if you leave all the wiring in place and the computer hooked up, wouldnt the fans, fuel pump, and lockup work fine since the computer is still in place?

The fans and fuel pump would. But not the lockup. It requires TPS and engine speed information that are disabled in a non-computer carb swap.

Re: carb swap wiring

I'm trying to determine what wires I can remove after changing to a non-computer carb and distributor. Is there any good tutorials on what can be removed?

If you find that let me know. So far as stated previously, the whole passenger side can be tucked into the passenger fender well. I found that not to be completely true unless we have different harnesses. The starter wires need to be removed from the loom on the passenger side. That's as far as I have made it.

Re: carb swap wiring

CharcoalBird: His car is an earlier year so his ECM harness is completely separate from his engine harness. Your car is another story,..... Beginning in 88 the ECM and the ENGINE harness is 1 huge bundle.

Tiden: Here is your tutorial.......
