VSS disable
VSS disable
How do you go about disabling the VSS in a bin file. I am doing a TPI conversion and don't have the money for the signal generator yet so i am going to wait on getting it. I am wondering how i can modify my bin so it will run ok until i get the VSS hsignal generator
You don't so much disable the VSS but disable the DTC flag so you don't see a CEL aglow on your dash. To disable the code, you need to find the MALF word (in the ECU or XDF file you're using) with the bit that is applicable to the VSS code.
If you disable the VSS error signal, the ECM will still not be able to set idle mode, you won't get DFCO (so you get worse fuel consumption), etc, etc. This is not a good thing - if you're going to drive much, fitting the VSS will soon have saved you more than you'd spend on fuel.

Hit a yard and get one.
They are fairly common and v6 cars have them too.
They can be a royal pain to get out sometimes but shouldnt matter if u have quantity on your side. Try the next one.
Like he said, until u do expect some flukes like stalling at a stop and idle leanring issues and anything else associated with mph.

You can run without a VSS. The biggest problem you will probably see is stalling when you come to a stop. What you can do is keep opening the TB blades until it stops stalling and readjust your TPS to be at idle volts. This may take a few tries. Usually the TB adjustment will be right around your set idle speed in gear with an automatic. Like everyone said it is not recommended but it can be done. The place I got my harness tried to convence me I didn't need one and the harness was not wired for one. They also said they had a performance chip I bought. I ran without one for a couple of years. You can check the XDF definintions of your bin to see what is controlled by MPH and assume those are worthless until you get one.
ok thanks, i plan on running a VSS and have my harness wired for it but i just don't have the funds right now for the part. I plan on installing it as soon as i have the money for it
