Head options
Head options
I have a 1990 camaro vin e with the tbi 305 auto trans. im looking to get a little more performance out of her before i swap for a 350 (or maybe bigger
) engine is bone stock no mods as of yet. I have been told i can put 350 heads on it, but as far as im aware the bore is different and the valves would strike the top of the piston. so a little insight on this would be helpful.
Also what other heads could i swap onto the block? and what would it take to do so, i understand the possible replacement of intake manifold, and really dont want to swap it to carb until i go with the 350 if i dont have to, but i want to run this 305 this summer so i will do what i have to (on a limited budget of course) any help would be great, thanks!

Re: Head options
well since you're gonna do an upgrade in the near future, I would then recommend you buy a TPI setup, get a high flo aftermarket intake, buy some headers, and let'er breathe...

Be aware that a head swap may need to include deck milling the block to allowe correct quench and good sealing at the same time. Too big quench will require a lame SA table, reducing power output.
Carb swap will not help make more power then now.
TPI or a TBI with EBL flash will make similar power on a mild 305 or 350.
You can find lots of information about your LO3 in the TBI forum.
To match a 91-92 L98 thirdgen with full exhaust, you need: full exhaust, LT1/LT4 (not hot) cam, appropriate valve springs, 23psi fuel pressure (TPI fuel pump at least), free flowing cold air cleaner, decent tuned EBL flash, 46mm bored 3704 intake manifold, 46mm TB, calibrate the governor to shift at around 4700 rpm and 3.23 gears. You may get away with the stock intake manifold, stock TB and stock calibrated governor (around 4400-4500rpm).
With a VRFPR and the tuned EBL, fuel efficiency and emissions will meet LO3 stock standards.
This may turn your LO3 in to a fun cruiser and allowe you to save and build a 350.
