where is the starter enable relay?Neutral safety switch?

i am having a problem with my car. when i turn the key i am not getting anything. Starter wont turn or nothing. The battery does turn on thats it. Its not the starter because we gave it some juice and it worked so we are thinking maybe its the ignition. If you might have an idea of what the problem is please give me a hand. I need to know where the starter relay is and the neutral safety switch is on the car. Thanks for your help Matt

When you turn the key to the on position do you hear the fuel pump turn on. I don't know if you are having the same problem i had, but one day i messed with my car and when i went to start it and nothing. But my head lights worked my radio worked and stuff but wouldn't start. Well after 2 days of searching I found a little fuse that is the fuel pump/ecm fuse. Mine was located right above the battery but you can't see it because it is inside a little black capsule it was attached to passenger side fender. I have an 87 iroc with tpi. Well i hope this helps. I know the feeling all to well

The Park/Neutral saftey switch is located at the base of the shifter. You'll have to remove the ashtray/shifter plate to get to it. It's not too hard to replace and I think it's only about $20.

park neutral switch

How did you go about disabling the p/n switch? do they check when you take your car to the track if it is working? Never had it at the track so I was just wondering. Didn't want to do away with it if they did. thanks

to bypass the neutral safety switch..

#1. remove the shifter plate/ashtry.

#2. on the right hand side under the shifter plate u will see to big wires [purple and green in my car] that are part of the safety switch wiring harness.

#3. take the two big wires, cut them off at the plug then splice them together.

your done.
no more trouble with the fkin thing. and they dont check at the track where i go beacause its to much of a pain to have people takin apart their console's.

It's one of the first things checked at our local track. Put in it gear, if it starts, it fails. They do give you two weeks to fix it but you don't get your sticker until it's fixed.

It should only be done to diagnose a problem!

What year is your car? Do you have VATS? If the chip on your key is damaged, it will turn everything on, but when you try to crank it....nothing.

That means you probably dont have it, but my 91 has a vehicle anti theft system. Theres a small chip(its actually a resistor) on the key that the computer reads. If it doesnt receive the correct signal it wont start.

There is also a start enable relay in the left kick panel area.

And wouldn't it be easier to repair the problem than to rewire the car? Just sayin'...

and if you were to bypass it i would use crimp connectors at the minimum, instead of simply twisting them together, unless you wish to have them work apart and have same problem again and have to take console back apart again

from this thread i have learned two things about the cars: red and green wires, and in the console and a relay maybe in the left kick panel, yay

good luck
