400 on the sauce in the makin
400 on the sauce in the makin
Just got my 400 couple days ago starting to build. Gonna go basic rebuild with JE forged pistons and a whole lotta of juice.shootin for low 11's.Everyone said the little 305 wouldn't go no where but it pulled through and is in the twelves. not a timeslip for it yet but parkway pulls with friends prove it.Any input would be cool.....
Just for your info parking lot adventures doesn't mean you have a 12 second car. And until you get timeslips I wouldn't say you have one. There were alot of times when I thought my car would do something but then when I went to the track I was dissappointed. Not trying to start a flame war just saying, don't say something without proof.

Jesus, I must have a f*ckin rocket ship then. I was driving down the street the other day and looked up and saw a plane. Could have sworn we were both going the same speed because I was pacing him even though he was a mile above the earths surface.
Until you get a timeslip, your estimations mean **** :lala:

What kind of input are you looking for? If it were me, I would find a 2 bolt 400 block, have it splayed to 4 bolt mains with aftermarket caps and use a good crank. Around 650 ft # of torque you start pushing the block past its limit. not to mention that 400's are notorious for having thin cylinder walls and decks. you will want to ave the block checked very good by a shop who has the means to do it. You may also consider plugging the large holes in the deck to add some more strength and then have it decked off.

I gave an honest and helpful answer. Ive BEEN DOWN THE 400 BLOCK ROUTE AND I DO KNOW WHAT IS WEAK ABOUT THEM.

Geez guys the guy just asked for some input, maybe he's wrong about the times, but we all know how inaccurate the butt dyno, give him a break and some good advice and he'll know better next time.
If you do a good build on the engine 11's on the engine is no problem with a 400. Guido's reccomendations were good, the splayed caps are a lot stronger, a few hundred extra dollars though, but worth it. I'd reccomend the nodular iron ones instead of the steel, they match the expansion rates of the engine block better. Use the forged pistons and a good set of forged rods (I like eagles, but other companies make quality rods as well). A forged crank at the level your talking about is not really necessary, but I'd upgrade at least to an aftermarket nodular iron one. You're gonna have a bunch of bottom end torque so use a bigger cam to balance it out and you can really make it rock. Do the hydraulic roller retrofit on the block for easy maintenance and more power, if maintnecane isn't as much of an issue go with a small solid roller and be prepared to run the valves occasionally. I like the AFR 210 heads for the 406, but they are a little pricey, but a good set of heads is a must, that 400 will be an air hungry b*****rd, so make sure you do the upgrades to feed it.

what do u think about the vortech heads
What about the vortech heads do u think they are too small for the motor i was gonna get a full race port on them im like maxed out is it worth it or maybe outa the box afr's for now till i can have them ported, and maybe a solid flat tappet to take some weight off the valve train i was also thinkin about the pro lightning heads made by pro topline 228cc 64 cc 307cfm 210cfm at 700"lift might be a better by than the vortech and anybody have results of the blower on a carb setup by vortech like how much pounds of boost and is it efficient thanks

Don't use the Vortecs on that motor. They will be to small. Even if you "max port" them, they still won't respond well. I would start with something 200cc or bigger.
