Newbie to NOS
Newbie to NOS
I have an89 Formula 350 that I want to increase horsepower on and would like to purchase a NOS system for it. I'm do most of my work myself on my car but am in no way a professional when it comes to engine combinations and what not.
My question is to properly put NOS in a TPI 350... what are some of the other items that I'd need to make this happen? Remember we're dealing with a moron here so take it easy on me with the technical talk. Any help would be greatly appreciated....
89 Formula TPI 350 with 145,000 on the clock
Flow Master cat-back exhaust system
Accel wires and cap
Accel super stock coil
K&N air filter in stock air box
K&N fuel filter
TCI 1900 stall
B&M shift kit
Cross Drilled front rotors
BMR strut tower brace
Global West steering box brace
BFG KDW's all the way around
soon to be in...
new IAC valve to hopfuly solve idel problem
new Coolant Sensor to back up the IAC in solving the idle thing maybe
new 170 stat
new radiator and hoses
new heater core

whats up bro, just finished installing a nitrous express kit # 20920. works on all TPI's LT1's and LS1's (kit adj from 35 to 150hp). picked the kit up from http://www.nitrouswarehouse.com/. Killer staff they know their ****. headin' to the track wed' so i'll let you know what the timeslips are. my car has 120,000 on the clock but only 10,000 or so on the motor ( rebuilt it and kept is stock). other mods in sig..
good luck with the bird

No... It doesn't have to be NOS. I'm just interested in a system of that type that will basically bolt onto my motor. With my motor as high milage as it is I'd like to know what I'd need to keep it from detonating on me when I use the system. Atleast till I rebuild the engine somewhere down the road...

First make sure your engine isn't burning oil.
Change your fuel filter and check your fuel pressure during a wide open throttle pass.
If you have platinum spark plugs, lose them in favor of good old fashioned copper core plugs.
If all is good then your ride should be ready for nitrous.
In addition to the basic kit you should get a nitrous pressure guage. A fuel pressure safety switch isn't a bad idea either. A bottle heater isn't required but it will help you get the most out of the nitrous kit.
Mostly, before you buy and install, search & read through the archives here to learn as much as you can about nitrous and its use, as well as installation tips, potential problems and options.
Just for the record, I like the NX TPI kit best.

Thanks for the 411 on what I need for a nitrous system. I appreciate the assist guys. I'll have to figure out my idle problem issues and keep an eye on the oil consumption and then strap on a NX kit which looks to be what I'll be getting... agian thanks!!!
