log style exhaust

i was reading this thread last night, and it got me thinkin'....

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=114400

..... and i was thinking of building one for my car. I really want to go twin turbo, but not having worked one making an exhaust manifold before, i thought that making an exhaust manifold, seen on the 2nd gen camaro, isnt as hard as making one with tuned length runners.

so i am thinking where do i get the supplies to do this?
i looked into the summit racing catalog and spotted the "hedman weld up header kits". i also spotted some "summit exhaust tubing".

i know that the hedman header part will work, but will that summit aluminized tubing work for a header component? and if so what size would be good for the "log" i was thinking 2.5" but 3" could also be a possiblilty.

the engine it would be going on would be a 377 and a t4 turbo. dont know much more.

if it works out, i would like to somehow develop a manifold that will put the turbos in front of the engine, and hopefully i wont have to mod too much stuff.

and depending on how hard it is to do, i was thinking of either developing plans for it, or possibly manufacturing them to help pay for my car.

Spend your money wisely & You can make just about any car fast "cheaply". that car does not look like a whole lot, but it is said to run 9's. that is pretty darn good for a "log style" turbo setup. I was thinking about buying the car & spend quite some time on the phone with him, there is nothing Really high tech there, just money spent well. Heck the headers are made from Schedule 40 pipe, how much low buck can you get? does the job though. I say do it.

yeah i want to do it, i wonder if it would be possible to even clear all of the accessories. havn't looked under the hood in a while.....

hey can anybody tell me the diameter of that "log" pipe? i figure if it worked on a 454 it would work just as well on a 377.

schedule 40 pipe.....where do i get it, and does it come pre-bent?

I think the schedule 40 pipe you are talking about is also refered to as "weld-els"

This stuff is not bendable. You can buy the elbows and straight tubing from plumbing suppliers. You weld it up to make a very heavy duty header. I've seen it in 1 1/2" and 2" diameters but nothing in between.

These guys might be able to build you turbo manifolds. The ones I saw that they made looked like schedule 40.

Actually I was talking to my dad about the stuff (he's an old school mechanical engineer) and he was telling me that there are guys out there that can bend up to schedule 160 (I think that he found out when he was designing a hydraulic system in a steel plant).

BTW, up to 4" the size is up to a standard, it's not the inside or outside diameter. 1.5" schedule 40 has an inside diameter about the same or a little bigger then 1.75" exhaust tubing.

yes i know that the manifold would not be "efficient" or "tuned" but all of this "power loss" due to bad design will be made up for the turbos at the end of it..... and i mean if i were to make a 377 with twin turbo....i would have more power than i would know what to do with.

there is no replacement for displacement

hey B4Ctom1, when are you going into production with those? I'd like to place an order for one of the first few sets... Do you need a deposit?

The problem is see, the closing of the bethlehem steel pipe plant, I cant seem to find a supplier for the one mile of steel per header, and the 5 miles of TIG rod required to build it.
