Anyone tried the 1227749(Syclone) ECM swap?
Just wondering if anyone has done the 1227749(Syclone) ECM swap on their F/I 3rd gens? The tech article is located here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...nversion.shtml
I havent really looked into the capabilities on these ECM's , but they seem like a fairly cheap way to have more control over the tuning of a F/I setup in our 3rd gens. Anyone out there try this yet? How did it turn out? Do you think it was worth it? What is your setup (turbo/blower)?
Right now I feel like im 'in the dark' with my 91z. Car has a L98 with a Vortech S-Trim V1 S/C @ 6 psi. The previous owner did install a FMU, but there is no A/F Ratio guage and I dont know how it is tuned. I could be loosing out on ALOT of usable HP and TQ or damaging the engine, but I dont know it. Also, I dont know how it will react to higher boost, or an intercooler. The current FMU is a Vortech unit and it works in conjunction with the MSD ignition (thats what it says). Dont see anyplace I can hook a computer up to it to tune ... seems like a hardcoded solution.
I looked online and saw MSD had an aftermarket box (Jegs - 121-2350) to help maintain a correct A/F ratio, it provides more voltage to the fuel pump as boost increases, but it seems like I'm missing something. I'd like to get away from having 3 or 4 of these boxes in there. I imagine it'll take a lot of time to get them all working good together. I think a single FMU is the answer, and will provide better tuning. What do you guys think? I know something like F.A.S.T. would be the ultimate answer, but if the 1227749 ECM can get the job done then why not save some $$ right?
Thanks for any input!
