Is this turbo worth anything?
Is this turbo worth anything?
My grandpa has a 1989 dodge spirit. With the 4 cylinder turbo.Well he let my aunt burrow it.And she blew the head gasket and *** knows what else.
We are probably going to end up junking the car.I want to keep the turbo stuff off of it.Maybe adapt it to my cavalier or something.
Are these turbos' worth anything to anyone.Or are they to small?
Basicly I am asking is it worth keeping or not.

I would probably say there too small for a v8. You could always try swapping to another car but you would need a lot of extras more fuel, different camshaft probably, and *** knows what else. You could always take it off and sale it on ebay or better yet get on an import forum and post an ad there. hehe I would pull it off. I mean if you decide you don't want it you just sale it on ebay and make some cash. Besides junk yards take about anything and give you a flat pay out (at least around here) I've even helped people take off rims and tires from a truck about to be sent off to the yard.

Some are pretty small, but others are pretty good size T3, Is the car a manual? Usually manual/5 speed, dodge and chrysler turbo cars had bigger/better turbos. Go get some casting numbers off the block and/or heads.

I'd say it's probably not worth your time then, if so, remove it from the head itself, all the bolts around the turbo flange broke whenever I've tried to remove them.
If you'd rather not mess with parting it out, you might have decent luck selling the whole car in the classifieds forum at www.turbododge.com. There are always people there looking for a project. If you are parting it out, you could probably sell a good deal of the parts there too. If you want to, PM me or send me an e-mail with all the details and I'll post an ad for you to save you the trouble of having to register. Also, before you give up on it completely, check out www.thedodgegarage.com (pay particular attention to the Daytona and the Reliant).
You can get all kind of power out of those little engines for very little money (the Daytona runs 12's with a bone stock bottom end and most of the other parts are just modified stock pieces). A Spirit makes one heck of a sleeper
might just be worth fixing.
HTH,
Tony

It's worth trying to fix, but if you're not up for it definately take a trip over to td.com and part it out

If that's the same engine they put in the Dodge Caravan 4cyl turbo then I'd try and sell the whole car. We have a guy on the Astro/Safari forum that runs mid 12's in a turbo Caravan.
