3.4 Supercharge? Turbo? Swap?
3.4 Supercharge? Turbo? Swap?
I have been reading alot about people who switched out their V-6s for V-8s. I recently bought a 92 Firebird with the 3.1 V-6. I have also been looking at Supercharges. A Supercharger would cost about 3,000. This would be about the same price as a Good 5.7 V-8 and installation kit. And it would save me all the trouble of the conversion. The wuesiton though is if it is worth it? I know what the manufacturers say about their products, but anyone out there ever have a supercharged V-6? Is the power increase worth the price? And what about fuel economy and engine wear. Supposedly the supercharger would not hurt either one, but I am not so sure. So if anyone out there has any real experience with them I's like their opinions. And anyone who has done both the supercharger and the swap, which would you recommend?
Also I have been hearing about some guys with V-6's attempting to rig a turbocharger. I know it feeds off the exhaust rather than porting in more air directly. And that it is cheaper than supercharging, but what would be the power differences?

you realize that most factory turbo cars are 6 cylinders? Buick Grand National, Gm typhoon and sycloon, all of the "Super" cars from japan are mostly Twin or single turbo 6 cylinders. ( NSX is n/a ) So turbo charging would be a definate possibility. Vist some Grand National sites to get any idea. i dont know what it is about them but those cars are insane, i really wonder how far a V8 could be pushed after seeing some of the stuff they do.:hail:
