Turbo housing + fab work = sudo S/C?

To gain a couple #'s of boost, why couldn't you take a smaller turbo housing say a t25(cheap), fab up a pulley and mounting bracket for it and run it from the belt just like a S/C. With a smaller pully would it turn the turbo fast enough to be worth while? There's got to be a reason that someone hasn't done this before. Maybe its because the benefits wouldn't be very high? I'm thinking you could get 2-5#'s of boost for a couple hundred dollars. Please tell my why this wouldn't work.

I believe that there is a mailing list about this.. But one thing you have to remember is that turbos spin at 80,000 rpm and up so it makes it a little difficult to fab...

Thats why I mentioned the small pulley. It would have to be about 1-1.5 inches in size and I'm not sure if thats even feasible. I don't think you could get a belt to stick to that. Also you could use a gear setup to increase the RPM to the turbo, but I'm not sure what gears wouldn't grenade at 100,000+ rpm

he bearings in a turbo are not built for the side loading that a tensioned belt would put on it.

Someone on this board from over the water has done it before, and it looked awesome but it was a LOT of work and more trouble than it was worth in my opinion.
