Final damage total of nitrous back fire.

I finaly pulled the damaged motor yesterday and disassemblied it today. Again had coolant in the lifter valley. Pulled the heads and intake no sign of leaks on any of the gaskets, the gaskets are brand new with only about 30 mins of run with no miles. So, I pull the oil pan and the first thing see is a crap load of metal shavings in the oil pick up screen. I removed all rod ends and find 3 spun rod bearings (#s 8, 6, and 3). So I pound out all pistons and find 4 broken top rings (#s 8, 6, 3, and 2) and one broken 2nd ring (# 8). I also had 2 broken pistons (#s 8 and 3). Last thing I removed today was the main caps and found 2 spun bearings (1st was the one between 8,7 & 6,5 and the other was between 6,5 & 3,4). The back half of the engine was toast, O' as for the leaking coolant, big crack in the #8 cylinder wall. So I gambled running nitrous on a stock 305 block with 142K miles and lost. The back fire was my fualt, I jacked the timing to run faster N/A and didnt put it back. By the way Willie, you aren't the only 4 bolt 305 on the board any more. Thanks for the idea. I'm still running a stock bottom end 305 4 bolt splayed, turned crank, pistons with Sealed power E356K moly rings, clevite 77 rod and main bearings, a new GM performance cam @.50 222/230 509/528 LSA 112, and a set of crane RRs at 1.52 which will yeld about 516/535 lift. With Baddest305 not being a 305 any more, I'm hoping to make the 11 sec club before the end of the year, IF THE TRANS HOLDS.

Cool... Now go for it!!

....a new GM performance cam @.50 222/230 509/528 LSA 112....

What's interesting is this cam appears IDENTICAL to a Crane PowerMax roller hydraulic. It has exactly the same specs (at least the ones advertised). And it's almost identical to a custom grind I chose except LSA (for my blower). Mine:

Dur at 50: 223 / 232
Lift (1.5): 509 / 530
LSA: 114.4

....and a set of crane RRs at 1.52 which will yeld about 516/535 lift.

Do you have the rockers yet? I have a set of Comp Cams Magnum 1.52 roller tips for sale.

Thats a pretty big cam for a 305

Why yes it is....

I know it's going to take some major programing to make the car run really well with it. But I think the end result will be well worth it. Here is a link to the cam, its smaller brother, and the granddaddy. Little brother cam , My cam , and The granddaddy
