Oh poop. bye bye bearings....

I made a major mistake today and ran my turbo w/ no oil in it. It smoked a lot and made some nasty noises before I figured out what it was. That was the end of the bearings. I now have considerable shaft play and some of the blades on the compressor side are making contact with the housing under higher turbo RPM situations.

What are my options now? Can I drive it at all, or do I risk losing the entire turbo and my engine? Is rebuilding the best idea, or should I go w/ a rebuilt one already? It is a T04

Thanks,
Douglas

replace or rebuild, that kind of dmage is significant, do not drive.

BTW when the blades made contact with the housing where do you suppose the metal shaved off went?

what engine?

I have a pretty large T04 sitting here on my desk right now in really nice condition.

I bought it from a guy who put it on his 1.8L Acura Integra, it would not even spool lol! So he sold it to me. Its almost brand new, has less than 10 miles on it.

0.60 Compressor housing and 1.15 Exhaust housing.

Im willing to sell.

Thank B4C. You just confirmed what I had been doing (not driving it)

I assume the metal went straight through the engine. The engine still seems just fine, so I am not too worried about that. Bet it jas sucked in worse stuff then that before
