Before a supercharger

Im positive i want to get a ATI Procharger for my '91 GTA. Looking at getting the P600b model, now i really don't have any mods done to this motor at all. What are some suggested stuff to do before buying one of these kits for a local dealer. My motor is in pristine condition. I put it through a leak down test no problems compression at is at 100% in all cylinders...seriously its like this motor was just rebuilt but it has 60000mi on it, but back to the point any suggestions... Ive just ordered a set of Hedman Longtubes, cause im sure the first person to reply will say headers and exhaust. but thanks for the replies. You may save the GTA from getting blown to pieces

If leakdown is at 100%, then the test wasn't done correctly. I'm not sure what you mean by compression at 100%. The most important thing is to never detonate. Running lean will cause this, which can result from a bad fuel pump. I would install a fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on it, and maybe the in-tank Walbro instead of a T-rex. A beefed up ignition (MSD, Accel 300+, etc) is nice, but not mandatory for low boost. Ditching the FMU for larger injectors & a custom PROM or aftermarket DFI eliminates one more thing that can fail too... Reliability and KISS.

im not losing compression or have lost any and level of compression from any of my cylinders is all im saying. Thanx for the advice. I never thought of the fuel pump..hmmm how much do those cost.. and would a MSD 6A cut it for and ignition?

You might grab some forged slugs for that motor, just for some extra insurance. Also, if you plan on running a decent amount of boost, a good ignition system is reccomended along with a BTM.

Just running the most minimal amout the 600b will let me run which i 8 or 9 PSI i believe. i don't wanna rip into the motor as of yet.. Eventually i will do heads and cam to augment my SC gains but im in school and i have a student loan to blow and i cant afford to much down time. i really wanna test out the Typhoon/Syclone ECM conversion in my car. I really appreciate all the input. Im going to have to make a list of lil extras. The g/f was wondering what to get me for christmas...mwa haha

I've been where you are but never with that exact combination of parts. Here are some general suggestions:

1. Build ***'s own fuel supply system. Your stock fuel pump might be fine, might not. Don't chance it. Put an appropriate in-line pump in there and don't chance running out of fuel at high RPMs. Ka-Boom is not something you want to deal with 3 runs after you install the blower. Running lean is DEATH on a boosted motor, especially a stock one.

2. Don't get greedy with ignition timing. If you have an aftermarket chip- ditch it. They often give more spark advance than stock. And don't bump up the base timing, either. Stock setting or a little less is where you want to be to start- at least until you get more familiar with the new combo with the blower.

3. The blower should come with an FMU that increases fuel pressure about 6 PSI for every 1 PSI of boost. Install and adjust it EXPLICITLY per supplied instructions. And then strap a fuel pressure gague to your windsheld when you make the first few runs to make sure fuel pressure isn't taking a nose-dive in the upper RPMs. Again, NEVER EVER run lean.
