3 questions

first, Is the MSD timing master that comes with the Vortech blower kit, just a timing amster, or is it a MultSparkDischarge also?

and how does it work? it has a dial numberred 1-5. does it retard 1degree per 1lb of boost (on setting 1) up to 15 degress total retard?, or does it retard 3 degress per number? for a total of 15 degrees at #5 setting?

second: my frein has a 96 LT! w/ a ATI D1sc and twin int. anyway, it falls on it's face and feels like it's blowing sthe spark out at various rpms around 5,200-5500rpms. It thia a fule issue, is he losing spark, is it a sensor issue, know sensor? any ideas? It sucks, he used to rev to 6,000 and make alot of power, he has heads and cam,... now he can't get the blower to a full 6lbs boost, and has to shift early.

1st) that one is not the multispark system. the 6 BTM is.

2nd) that unit, like the 6BTM model, is supposed to pull the amount on the dial in degrees times the each pound of boost. 1 pound = 1 degree to 1 pound = 15 degrees. depending on where the **** is set.

The problem is that our testing of that unit on the dyno found that after only a short time 99% of them fail to function as advertised. While dynoing we tried cranking it one way the the other after we found on a return visit to the dyno that moving it in small increments seemed to have no effect. messing with the timing usually has a big effect on the dyno numbers while dynoing. We knew when we first installed it, that it functioned as advertised. Now after 2 or 3 thousand miles it had failed to operate as designed. So to test we used a timing light and a hand pump. movement of the dial resulted in no change. After that we tested every one that came to the shop to dyno with the customers approval. what we found was that of the 20 or so we tested only 1 or two functioned. this went for the 6BTM models too! our methods were simple but we had to be sure. When you run the same test on the crane model it responds exactly as it should, so we started using exclusively the crane model and quit selling the MSD boost referrenced models. I believe in MSD all the way, with exception of this model and the 6BTM.

3rd) its an LT1 that wont rev? how is he fueling it for the boost. its likely the optispark, but I have seen a few LT1's with a blower installed that the owner did nothing for additional fuel under boost. I dont just mean a fuel pump either. I mean the computer made to add extra fuel or an FMU like device. the fact that it did work at one time means its likely the optispark sensor package (his distributor).

wow, that's great info! thanks so can you answer these questions?

So what do you recommend as a multiple sparka dn retard box? which unit exactly?

can i get msd to send me a new one? did you have any replaced?

as far as my buddies car, he replaced the optispark a little while ago i think. He has a booster fuel pump and a fmu.. Any other ideas? it jsut seems to fall on its face and severely miss when he hits 5,200-5,500 rpms. we were also thinking about the map sensor,.. what efeect might this have if it was bad? how do they work exactly?

thanks a LOT! I appreciate the info!

maybe, but will it do the same thing? the biggest problem I had with MSD was that they refuse the problem exists. get it replaced/exchanged and then ebay it, I guess.

I still think he needs to do whatever is done to check the optispark. they seem to be the scourge of LT1 performance
