Twin turbo header option

This is a stock C4 (1984) Corvette header with the heat shield removed mounted upside down och a 350 TPI IROC.

It seems like it is very possible to just cut the collector off and weld a turbo flange in it's place. Two small turbos should clear the hood. It might even be possible to make a short downpipe and connect it to the stock exhaust on both sides.

Re: Twin turbo header option

Like I said in the other thread… looks familiar. I posted pics of the setup probably 2 years ago or so… here are some pics of some test fits that I did. Somewhere I've got pics T3's mounted to the flanges taken through the opening in the back of my formula hood so you can see the hood clearance, but I can't find them right now.

do the lt1 corvette headers work any better than block hugger headers? which is "shorter" to mount the turbo lower?

Depends on which ones, some are shorter and some aren't… but do you know of a cheap source of stainless block huggers?

the drivers side looks like you would have a problem with the exhaust boiling the brake fluid. suggestions on fixing this problem?

Wrapping brake lines in the header type heat wrap helps. Mounting the Master Cylinder on the other side of the firewall with a street rod style setup.

They're not right next to each other like they look in the pictures… the brake stuff is behind the header. I don't think that the header or turbo would be close enough to cause issues, but the down pipe, whatever you end up running might… I'm pretty sure that there is plenty of room if you're willing to run a 2.5" or smaller down pipe, and you could even mate it up to the stock y-pipe.

If you wanted to go bigger I'd say that the easiest way to do it is to convert to manual brakes.

I'd bet that the bigger problem would be that if you don't cut the collectors down any more then that you'd have to work out some way to shield the hood/paint from the heat.

Really, the easiest way to do it is if you mount the turbo flanges at an angle so that you lay the turbos down almost right on top of the valve covers. Then you have loads of room, and the collectors could be cut down that far (I actually mocked the setup up like that and have pictures somewhere also, but can't find those either). The only thing that I don't like about that is that it means that the turbos have to be moved to mess with anything under the valve covers and I'm sure that it won't make it any easier to remove TPI runners (which are difficult without anything in the way).

The factory 'vette ones are stainless, probably 409... and I've gotten a few sets of them now for between $25 and $40.

305? What's special about a 305 over any other small block?

As far as I remember, the ones in those pictures are off of an '84, crossfire 'vette, but all the C4 ones are pretty much the same.

Also, be aware that what you see in that picture is the result of a lot of cutting and some welding. At the very least you'll want to cut off the smog stuff and weld it shut
