New size M&H recemaster cheater slicks

Talked to Tom at M&H racemaster about making a 26x10.5x16 cheater slick tire to accomidate our 16x8 rims. He seems to think if he can get some intrest for these particular tires that they will make them.
Specs:
26x10.5x16
HB-11 compound
Price $169

Please I want your input on this subject. If you guys like running 28'' tires or something else lemme know so I can get the consensus on this site.

www.intercotire.com

Ps. put this in the power adder section because you guys would be needing these more than anyone else.

Thanks,
Bo

I'm interested in the tires. The cheater slicks look awesome. Also, I would be interested in the drag slicks with the grooves in them. 16" of course.

I'm not sure that I see the point. I know that from the ta/formula/firebird rims the 15" rims are almost 20# lighter each then the comparable 16" rims, and I'd assume that they would be sized the same as the similarly designated 15's, which will look slightly smaller then stock tires on a 16" rim. Wouldn’t it just make more sense to get a lighter, 15" rim (stock 15's can be had for next to nothing) and run one of the range of 26-28" tires that they already make and save the weight?

What I really want to see is a 27" tall tire with somewhere around a 10" tread width and 12.5" section width (call it whatever size you want, would make sense to make it in a 15 and 16" rim size). Until they do that a lot of us will stick with similarly sized tires from Hoosier and MT even if we would prefer M&H…

I run a 12' rear brake that requires a 16" wheel... so for me a drag radial is pretty much the only option right now.

First, there's a lot of 15" wheels that have more room for brakes then most 16's, some even specifically designed to clear bigger brakes (like the weld XP line).

Second, if drag radials won't do it the 8" or so of tread that a 10.5 Dot tire will have won't either, so you'd be better off with the larger tire like I suggested. If you really want the short dot tire then M&H used to make (I'm not sure if they still do) a 305 40 16 (I think that was the size designation, it was w i d e and somewhere around 26" tall) that will fit on a 16x8" rim. I know people that have run low 1.5's on them mounted on factory rims.

Here you go, second from the bottom. They even suggest that you can use it on a 7" rim (i've seen them on an OEM 8" rim and I find that hard to believe, but oh well...)

My point is that I could run my same 16" rims with a cheater slick and it would look like a regular tire. Who wants to drive around on the street with mismatched wheels? I guess you were talking about changing all of them out. Some of us are like Dan W. A 305/40 would be pretty cool also.

I dont want any confusion.... But the 305/40/16's are muscle car series and the 26x10.5x16's that i am trying to get made are the cheater slick series.

Different compound and tread design all together.

I also have larger brakes on my TTA, so I cant find too many 15"rims to fit. These tires look very nice and would fit nicely on a 16x 8 rim.

This post is just to find intrest in another 16" DOT legal tire for us.

Dont know about you but I would love to see a variety of 16" DOT slicks to choose from.

Thanks,
Bo

i ran the 305-40-16 M&H muscle tire on the vette last summer.

1.64 60' spraying off the line. Not too bad in the rain either.

Mark, the GTA wheels weigh 19#. The 15" wheels won't be that much less, if at all. Factory at least.

Bo, I too, would like to see 27" tires. But I'd rather see it on the drag radial. I use mine all the time as its my everyday tire. And I think I'm going to be maxing out my Nittos soon, 1.62 so far.

I'll post over at TB.com also.

TTA 1387 Is that 1.62 on the Nittos? If so what are your suspension mods? I was only getting 1.64's on the M/T drag slicks.

Rob, yea, the gta wheels are pretty light, within a couple of pounds of the 15's (I used to run the rear's off of Clint's TTA at the track, they had some super sticky retreaded Goodyears on them), but most people don't have them and have the much heavier "high tech" or "iroc" wheels.

Really, in a perfect world nitto would make some 255 60 15 (just over 27" and a perfect fit on stock 15x7's) and 295 50 15 (just under 27" and would be my choice if I was running wider aftermarket wheels) 555r's. Those tires are the only tire I've seen that makes both a great dragstrip tire and work well on the street and handle like a normal radial.

Yep
Mods are tubular panhard rod and LCA's. Original springs, shocks, torque arm and mount, 3.27 gears, etc. Pretty much stock except for those two mods.

I bet that you'd run the same 60's without the LCA's (with stockers that are in good shape) but not without the PHR. Is that with a stock converter? To come off the line that hard I'm betting that you either were running an aftermarket converter or were building boost on the line…

Of course you have to build boost to launch like that

That short time is with a 3200 Vigilante. Still playing with it as its fairly new.

I ran a couple 1.65's with the stock D5 converter. That was the stock everything back then. 12.15@111 on a 1.69 was the best time for the stock setup. IE, stock turbo, injectors, downpipe, cat back, etc...on Nittos
