Cheap crosover pipe for single turbo, but will it flow good?
This idea would be so easy, I dont know why I didnt think of it before. I could cut off the part of my exhaust y pipe that goes back to the muffler and weld it closed, this would give me an instant crosover pipe for a single turbo. I also could manage to weld a adapter to the passenger side exhaust manifold to bolt on a 1980 or so 4.9 pontiac turbo. I like the idea but am worried that it might choke the motor by routing the exhaust from both heads through one original sized manifold. All the exhaust would have to run through there before it got to the turbo, would it be a bottleneck and cause problems? It almost sounds too easy, I think the turbo manifold would have to be made bigger maybe?
go to www.ls1motorsports.com (now known as quarter mile performance) and look at the install pics of their turbo kits and how they did the exhaust.... what your thinking is the same basic principle, cept they made the crossover pipe, and D/S manifold which flows better.... technically what your thinking will work, but i wouldnt do it.... not everything i have done to my cars is the "correct/professional" way of doing things, but doing it like that would hurt performance a lot, and would be pretty sh***y IMO i would just buy BBDS single turbo headers for $575, very good deal to get everything ready to bolt on basically, just add turbo and wastegate
