Supercharging a 170k mile 305?

Although my odo was rolled (this wasnt known to me when I bought it), it has now accumulated about 170k miles on the odo if I am doing my numbers right. The engine smokes a bit on startup, but other than that its fine mechanically and sounds great. Would it be able to handle a supercharger in its present state? What sorts of things would be likely to go wrong if I did? Are there things I could look for myself to see if this would be a good idea? And for those who have done this, is the 700R4/2.73 posi combo able to handle the extra power? And lastly, what would be my probable outlay of money on this venture, and would it be worth it? Thanks.

If you plan on driving it harder (you'd have to be stupid not too hehe) then yes it's going to put a bit more wear on you already worn short block. I really dont think it's worth it due to it being an abused 305. The tranny/rear will handle it fine because you will not be making that much power at all.

If you really want a bump in power i'd go with a small nitrous shot, maybe in the 100 range. Probably add just as much or more power then a stock pullied supercharger will do. Cost you about 500$ when it's all said and done. And I would venture to say that the 100 shot of nitrous will probably not hurt anymore then putting the supercharger on there.

i'd say nitrous would probably hurt it a lot less, because with a blower when your cruising down the highway, depending on RPMs your almost always in boost, nitrous is just every now and then

I'd recommend building a bigger motor rather than throwing a supercharger on a old 305 ...The cost and results would be the same (or better)
