My twin turbo headers!

We just finished them last night!

they are going on an 86 z28 with dart little M block, JE 4.155" dished blower and nitrous pistons, oliver billet rods(6 inch), callies 3.75" crank, AFR 210 comp. port heads with manley severe duty valves 2.100, 1.60. Dart wilson single plane manifold, lunati .606 .600 lift .258 .264 on 114 lsa solid roller cam!
the headers are t304 stainless steel, and the primary tubes are all exactly 19 inches long, the headers are identical on both sides except the pass. side is a little longer after the collector to clear the alternator.
I am using precision sc61 turbos with t4 .81 exhaust housings and t04s comp. covers, tial 38mm wastegates, and a 90mm throttle body!

around $1000 for them!
a screamin deal compared to what I could have paid.
they let me go through all their scrap bends and save some serious cash.
them ost expensive part was the collectors, but they were absolutely perfect inside and out!

they look even better in the car with turbos mounted up!

Those are some trick looking headers… nice.

That being said, I’m betting that you wouldn’t be able to prove a higher average HP over a set of well built log manifolds with an otherwise similar setup.

who cares if he makes more HP over some UGLY *** logs. Those are deff alot nicer.

$1000is cheap for a set uf headers like that OMINOUS_87. I almost droped $1200 on a set from Innovative turbo and Thats down from $2000 thay He wanted. but I desided I wanted to go a cleaner more header like prestons setup.

As for more hp over a stock chopped log manifold........it should make more hp I would assume since it will flow better.....With import turbo setups almost always the log manifolds made less hp then the nice (expensive) manifolds.

Hey ZZ4, where did you obtain those flanges? Ive seen them on a few sets of headers, but never knew where to get them.

For comparison, I had about $1000 in my old set for the SBC as well and this is how they turned out:

Curt, Yours looked great also for a single setup.

$1000 is about right for a DIY 304ss setup. It was right around $850+ for material from Stainless Works

Like I said, I think they do look sweet…

$1000is cheap for a set uf headers like that OMINOUS_87. I almost droped $1200 on a set from Innovative turbo and Thats down from $2000 thay He wanted. but I desided I wanted to go a cleaner more header like prestons setup.
To put it in perspective, figure the supplies used cost 2-3x what BBS uses and it’s a lot more work…, so yea, $1k is a smoking deal.

FWIW, If you’re looking for something like preston’s setup, then what difference does it make? You can’t see his headers/manifolds anyway.

Woa, no one ever said anything about a “stock chopped log manifold,” a properly designed log manifold is significantly different. Even OEM turbo manifolds are designed for durability and packaging first, and if you’re going to bring a factory f-body manifold, chopped and welded to run a turbo into the picture, well, cut one up and you’ll find plenty of problems. Even with that being said, cut and welded OEM manifolds will work more then well enough to blow up 99% of the engines that people are interested in turbocharging.

it should make more hp I would assume since it will flow better.....With import turbo setups almost always the log manifolds made less hp then the nice (expensive) manifolds.
Peak HP… yea, it’s possible, but I’ve seen quite a few back to back dyno tests that do not agree with that, and I’ve never seen a tubular manifold make more average power then a comparable “log” (again, it’s not really fair to compare something with 1-3/8” primaries and a 1-3/4” outlet to a tubular 1-3/4” primary/3” outlet, is it?)

curt- I got all the flanges and collectors from SPD.
they did an awesome job on them, I was very impressed with their product.
I did not buuild them myself I had thedesign made up by a company called spectrum 5 racing, and then I had a friend of mine build them with me because he has built turbo headers before, and I knew they would turn out allot better with his experience!

I would think that they would perform better than a log manifold, but I will never put one on my car to find out, I had a friend with a log manifold single turbo ls1 and when he had tubular headers made for it, it was a whole new car, tons more power, but it could've been that he had a bad setup before.
Either way I am absolutely stoked to get this thing running, when I get some pics of them in the car I will post em up!
