Wastegate questions

I'm going to be doing a turbo setup in the future[T70-ish], and I was wondering if it was possible to run the wastegate [46mm] wide open with very light spring pressure and not spool the turbo at all.

I'm dreaming up ideas to make the car sound as docile as possible until it's time to hit the loud pedal.

The other idea is to have electric cutouts installed to route the exhaust into the downpipe, when you want the turbos online, close the cutouts.

If you ran a '749 ECM: turn the car off, swap chips, start the car, hit the switch for the cutouts. Rock and roll.

LOL, I know it's just a dream right now, but is it even a feasable idea?

Turbos are load sensetive. If you don't want anyone to know what they're dealing with, just don't stand on it and it won't spool or whistle at all. When you want the boost, mat the throttle and its all there- thats easier, cheaper, and more efficient than the methods listed. A turbo doesn't have an uncontrolled whistle or whine like a SC (unless you open an exhaust cut-out in the downpipe!).

BTW, turbos are great mufflers, in case you haven't already heard. My TT 89 IROC with a flowmaster (80 series I beleive) is quiter than a stock L98 with a stock muffler (it is very quiet). Nobody can tell my motor isn't stock until it runs a 12 second ET. A turbo engine, with the right muffler(s) is the ultimate street sleeper IMO.

Nape, the turbo will probubly still spool. Mine does with the wastegate all the way open. I was still making 8-9 pounds of boost with the lightest spring avalible. But like mentioned above, you can't hear the turbo untill you really get on it. When its not spooling, the car is quiet, but when it spools, the wastegate opens and you better be covering you ears. If it spools with the WG open, then the WG does not flow enough.

This is true. But i cant put a bigger wastegate on because the piping going to the wastegate on the BBS header is not bigger than the wastegate itself.
