using NOS with minor mods on tpi 305
hi.......i need help on some things about NOS.....i have read performance books on them....etc.....they say you can use a less powerful nos kit say 50 to 100 shot on a mild modified engine, trans, supsension, and rear........with miles on the engine....over 100,000 and shouldnt be a problem.....and saw and heard people using NOS on stock camaros.......so to cut to the chase.......im buying a nos kit that range from 50 to 100 shot........new injectors....a holley fuel-in-tank pump.......I already have a msd billet type distributor cap and rotor......msd blaster coil.......msd super conductor 8mm wires.........no i dont have a timing retard module.....only because for some strange reason my msd box 6a didnt work for my car and u need this for the timing module....probby cause the spark was too much or my timing had to be upped a little........do i really need thows 2 components..........also i have new plantium plugs from accel and i also have a chip from hyper tech..and custom ram air and have a perfomance feul filter...as for other mods........i did as many basic things there are in the book to mod a tpi.........from a full exhaust........to moding the trannies valve body a little....with a trans pack kit dirlling holes in seperator plates....blah blah.......so am i in the clear to use this porduct? first time using it and do i need other complimentary components as well like a heater wires...nos gauge...etc. bottom line is can i use NOS on my camaro and can it be used on a bone stock camaro.......will it wear the engine down......yes i know the drawbacks....but im sure it will be ok cause im not gonna use it all the time......i just go to the track once a year and just enter eliminations. please let me know.......anyone cause im gonna order the stuff i need.....and whatever products i must get that u guys think is best...
ps. no the engine has no internal mods......and has over 100,000 miles.....runs strong....no bull......no problems and if you need to know more about the cars mods....let me know please.. thanks, scott.

You definatly need to retard the timing somehow. Especially with an after market chip that advances the timing further than stock. Whether you do this with a timing retard module or the distributor is up to you. Running a small shot like that wont do any harm as long as the timing is retarded enuf.

I am wanting to do the same someday with my car.
Has anyone had to change the stock injectors to run 100hp DRY shot of nitrous?

BTW, I have comp cam, headers, msd wires, ported plenum, gears and shift kit.

You dont need to change the injectors as long as the kit was designed to work with your car. A good kit will come with a valve that uses some means of increasing fuel pressure to get the enrichment required for the nitrous.

ok.....no problem.........ill get the timing module from msd and the msd 6al box.........but i just want to know if there is a module that you can hook up to the nos kit.........so when the nos is activated the timing retard module will kick on adjusting the timing for whatever needs.......or do i have to program that first manually. im sure there is some type of component that does this. thanks again.

I read somewhere on this message board about injectors. I have a 305 with 19lb injectors .
The formula goes 19lb /0.5(brake specific something)=38
38 x 8 cylinders=304 hp the injectors will flow but usually they only flow at about 80% SO they are only capable of 243hp???
Does this make sense?
Should I get bigger injectors? I have a afpr if that helps.

LB9 if you use the wet kit, you splice a fuel line off your schrader valve and its controlled seperately by a solenoid and jet sizes. The extra fuel is injected with the nitrous. If your injectors are not maxing out now they will read the same duty cycle with the 100 shot. The big concern is your fuel pump. I run a NX wet kit and am very happy with everything so far.

With a dry kit the nozzles only spray nitrous so the fuel enrichment must come from the injectors or carb.
With a wet system the nozzles spray both fuel and nitrous so you dont need enrichment from the injectors or carb.
Wet systems come in higher shots because they are independant from engine tuning.

duh! i guess that was kind of self explanatory. but thanks ill think ill stick with a wet kit, even though it seems harder to install i dont want to have to worry about bigger injectors.
thanks man!
