how much nitrous can my 305 handle
can anyone tell me about how much no2 I can feed my motor before it pukes I have a 93 model LT1 and 4L60 ready to go in it but want to have fun with my stock motor its a 89 model formula almost stock except the car didn't have the throtle body, distibutor,or most the wires so I put a carburated intake with a Edelbroke carb, and a HEI dist. on it and it runs preety good except the 3-4 shift is real weak car still has 60 lbs. of oil press in the mornings and never drops below 30 idling when its hot smokes win you start it but thats it does anyone think it will take a 150 shot....I was told by a friend that its almost impossible to double the horsepower of a motor using nitrous be cause the motor will only take in so much volume...any info would be cool...

you can run a 125 shot on a stock fuel pump. after that you might need to go bigger. but since you have a new motor, what the hell. put a big sho on it.

I like your atitude I've got a carter manual fuel pump on it it's 7.5psi 140? gph I think I'm going to start with a 100 shot but I've got pills to 175 i 25hp intervals so if it will take it I'll keep going

You can go a lot more if you know what you’re doing and are careful… I’ve hit a stock engine with 225hp, but I also eased it in with a progressive controller.

I have a "Nitrous Works" 125hp Wet kit on my 305 TPI.
The previous owner had it set on 125hp for 2 years. Man that really haulled ***. But spinning the rear wheels at 70mph was scary. Now ive downed the jets to 80hp.
Still hauls *** though.

IMHO if you have the 93 model LT1 and 4L60 'ready to go in', then get them installed as soon as possible. Then install your niotrous on the LT1 engine and have some fun.
If you are intent on pushing the limits of the existing engine until it results in terminal engine damage, then do what 83 Crossfire TA did with a progressive controller.

It doesn't matter whether it's a 50 shot or a 250 shot...it all depends on the condition of the ignition...and most importantly, the fuel / air mixture.
As mentioned progressive controllers are great, as well as timing devices that automatically back the timing off when the nitrous hits.
You just want to make sure you have enough fuel to keep the engine from going lean with the hit, and also that you don't have too much timing so as to keep away from detonation.
These two things willl KILL a stock ( or modified for that matter ) engine when using nitrous in spectacular fashion.
The most I've personally seen run through a stock ( cast pistons etc ) SBC, was a guy w/ a late 70's Z28, 350 4 speed. He added a better fuel pump, had a timing control, and a stage controller for the nitrous. I honestly don't know what kinf of "hp shot" he was pushing...as the system was owner built ( plate ), but I do know that thing ran DEEP into the 12's on a stock 350.
Don't forget alcohol injection as well. The guys I grew up with who fell in love with nitrous SWORE by alcohol injection

I don't doubt it...I've seen "Faster" setups on street racer setups, in other words, they beat a KNOWN faster car, but there was never a timeslip...
His problem was traction, and the fact he couldn't drive a stick...

its really not a question of the fuel pump( just change your tank) though controlling the timing helps, what the real question and my question is how much hp and torque can the stock bottom end hold?
Who here has had a connecting rod/ crank go?

a 125 shot would be completely safe. a 150 shot would be right at the limit. but if it were mine i would probably go with the 125. its still a good size shot and you dont have to worry about blowing anything. if you go with a bigger fuel pump then you can go with more nitrous. just remember really big shots are ment to be used with forged pistons.
