BBS Designs reputation?
I am new to this site and am about to start on my 87 Camaro project. I want a single turbo gt76.
What is BBS's reputation. I have seen so many horror stories with turbo companys. Has anyone been stiffed? How long did it take to get your kits after ordering?
Any feed back would help.....

I prefer to build my own turbo systems, but from what I hear his customers are happy, and that speaks volumes. BBSD visits this board, as do several of his customers. His prices are very fair and he is very helpful.
He will probably chime in here soon...

The guy who runs it is very nice and helpful. I was wary at first of a company not in the Mainland USA but I bought a full single turbo kit with the 62-1 turbo. I had a problem with the turbo that I got with the kit I bought, and I sent everything back to him. He had a shop look at the turbo At first they though it was from oil starvation, or that the oil screen was faulty, then they said the bearing was bad and now they say the back plate was bad. I ran the turbo for a maximum of 45 minutes total, 30 of that being idle trying to fix an idle surge I had.
I honestly don't know what the problem was, but the turbo didn't spin right, it rubbed, I could hear it audibly when I spun it with a finger. BBS verified that there was premature wear on the turbo when they got it back, and as far as I know they are rebuilding it. This is the short short version of course, this has been going on for months now, and I had been holding off posting until the situation was resolved. I will post a more detailed thread when everything is cleared up, but as of now it it not completely resolved.
The BBS kit itself is well put togther, you get all the parts you need down to the vacum lines and clamps. The manifold is a log style and it is well built, I think it's better built than the Banks which look like inverted manifolds. Some people dont like the log style but it is proven by BBS and Banks both to put up respectable numbers. If you're looking for a bolt on solution with minimal fabrication BBS is the best and most cost effective route I think. BBS sends you prompt email communication, I had to ask a few questions when I was installing and always got an answer either same day or the very next day.

Do you have the street kit or the race kit? Do they have a single kit that does not use a log? Can you get a larger turbo...say a GT76 or t76? I sent them a email the other day and have not gotten a reply.
I am looking for a turbo kit that can put down 700 rwhp. I want to keep the AC. Can you relocate the ac unit with the BBS race kits (twin or single) I am willing to give up power steering so I will free up some room.
I just relocated to Houston TX and I havn't found a shop that I am comfortable with fabbing a turbo kit. SPEED INC. in Chicago did most of the work on my Procharged 01 Camaro SS (850 rwhp) They did a sweet job with my custom blower set up and huge FMIC.
BTW- If any of you guys no anyone selling a good roller. I would be interested in it. I wouldnt mind saving some cash on this project.

I have another question?
I need to keep all my emmishions equipment on the car. Will i have to remove the smog pump? Can I keep the A/C with this kit? EGR?.... If I need to modify the car to keep these things on I will. I am just wondering if anyone has done this already with this kit.

Hi Guys,
Many thank's for the comments
Answering to Evil FI SS's questions; All the kits, except for the Street & Strip TT kit and in some cases the the Universal Twin Turbo kit(non-race version), will need to remove the emissions system(air pump, pipes, etc.) With the Street & Strip TT kit you can leave the air pump, but you will need to do something about the air steel lines that originally are fixed to the stock manifolds. Also the solenoids and other stuff located on top of the valve covers need to be relocated or deleted. The Street & Strip TT kit is good for up to 600hp.
The Race single turbo kit will keep the A/C on multiple "V" belt/pulley powered accesories engines without mods, serpentine models will need to delete the A/C or switch to "V' belt in order to keep the A/C. That kit is offered with a 62-1 turbocharger, but a T76 can be optioned and it will clear the hood as the picture of the BBSDesigns project GTA shows. The T76 will surely supply your 700 hp need.
Alex did had bad luck with his turbo, the turbo had suffered premature wear, but now that is been taken care of. He, Alex, can rest assure that he won't be disapointed in any way, he can take my word for it
Is not the first time I had bad expirience with a turbocharger and I always do my best to make things right for the customer.

I have the street/strip TT kit, but I have a nasty mess of car related and non car related business to clear up before it's on, it won't be very soon.
I can speak for customer service though, and it was top notch. He kept me updated throughout, and worked with me for a turbine upgrade option which is now available to everyone with that kit.
The kit is nicely made with thick materials and nice welds, I don't think I'll have any problems with it when I'm finally ready to install it. I'd recommend buying from him of you currently don't have the means or don't want to make your own complete kit.
Hope this helps.

Just because a guy makes a kit doesnt mean he has the resources to build a car with exorbident horse power figures.
He is a guy selling what he makes in his shop.
He isn't TDC or Incon. He can't build huge power and build headers, and buy a dyno, and build a R&D lab.
And because of it his prices are reflected as being much more reasonable.
I don't think he should post a HP figure, because guys like us that have the resources and money to buy his product will be the ones to post much higher HP figures than he will.
You think the highest horse power figures posted by Vortech, B&M, Procharger, NOS, Turbonetics were created by those companies?
What Im saying is, that if you ware so stuck on a horse power figure you will have to wait until the costomers around you begin posting them.

BBS designs is very good. I got the single turbo v-belt header for my car that is not v-belt. BBS offered to give me the right header or moddify mine to make it fit, but I allready made it fit on my car. I was taking the a/c off anyways and it fit perfect. The header is a good design too. The header was delivered fast too.
