Decent Turbo?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33742
I don't know anything about turbos, just wondering if this would work on a TPI 400 SBC. I'm shooting for 500 horsepower on a budget. Any ideas on what changes would have to be made my stock ECM? I have a burner but I haven't used it yet.

nope that turbo isn't going to work alone. two of them would not be all that great on a 400 either
that and you deffinitely don't want to use a turbo to get "only" 500hp on a budget.
Heads and cam on a 400 would end up being far cheaper and get you to 500hp. you'd have to do something with the TPI though...stealth ram or LT1 intake...or carb

I don’t know that I really see a problem with a pair of those for that power range… a pair should be happy pushing anything between 300 and 850hp…
But I do agree that NA will be a much more effective way of making 500 hp with a 400 in a performance application.

Do not buy that turbo, or any like it off eBay. It is a very poorly built imported reproduction of a Garrett turbo. Believe, me I am speeking from experience, I could write a book on the crap these things are. I had two of them on my TT IROC, and the one went out immediately (never made boost), and the second one went out within 200 miles. I reinstalled my original turbos (junkyard volvo turbo I rebuilt myself) and they have lasted almost 800 miles until I got my real T3/T4 hybrids built from a local turbo shop. I have the new hybrids on now, and they work wonderfully, with much better response even though the turbine housing is larger.
I don't know where these things are made, but from working with them I can tell you that everything about them is wrong.
