stupid matco tools what now?
ok, long story short I go to put on my new sbc 400 balancer everything is going smooth and all of a sudden the installer gets real loose and falls out in my hand.... I look and see the end the threads into the crank litterally pulled apart! not twisted but, flat out pulled apart looked like it shattered
the threaded part is now stuck in the crank like a broke off bolt. and since it is hardened I am now SOL
I guess I get to pull the eng out now.
since I will be pulling the eng. what would you guys do? replace the crank and rods with a much better or would you ditch the pricy 400 and go for a 350 with forged internals as well?
keep in mind this eng, has afr 195 heads HSR and has a procharger f-1

Fix it. Just like in a good **** flic, there's always something harder (for drilling, like in a **** flic). Get a good bit and go to town. One helicoil later and you'll be good to go.

Its not the tool my snap on one did the same thing. It almost wrecked my crank. Serously the only way I have been able to put those on was with the crank bolt. I was able to get it out with an easy out and a coalbalt drill bit.

you guys are right but, I was very pissed off and have been looking for a reason to build a tough short block, I have some cutting bits that I may give a whirl since I won't be out anything. it was an upsetting moment when the thing broke about a belt rib from where it needed to be.
