What rings to get?
Im building up a 383, with a forged crank, 4130 rods w/ Arp hardware, and some forged Probe -20.1cc dish pistons. The compression is going to be around 9.2:1 with my block decked to .020, and with a .015 MLS gasket, and 65cc'ed heads.
Now the pistions come with Total Seal rings, they look to be the cheap set, and i was wondering if there is anything that would be recomened, if i latter changed to AFR aluminum heads, and droped the compression even more to run lets say 12PSI, what rings are going to hold up the best for this, and stay around the $75-150 range?
Also, can you file fit a non file fit ring? Whats the difference in the ring that makes it not a file fit? Just thought adding a little more gap would help with expansion.

Find out what type of rings come w/ your pistons. I'm using total seal for n2o application, they're a file fit set, but they costed me over 200.

Im going to get the pistions through CNC-Motorsports, but they said that they come with the Total Seal Rings, but they do not list the P/N, design, or even material for them, only the thinkness, i sent them an email and they asked me to reread the discription. But sense they only want $480 for the pistions and rings, i dont think they are going to be the best of thier line, im thinking thier $39 Ductile Iron, file fit rings. The pistions are 1/16.1/16.3/16.
How big of a shot are you using, and what compression are you starting with?

300 shot and a static comp of 10.18:1
dynamic comp is only ~7.58 I know it's low.
.032 top ring
.018 second
Call total seal and see if they can tell you what rings they send CNC motorsports. Also ask them what rings they recommend and what the should be gapped at. Then call and ask the piston manufacturer what gap they recommend, and also talk to a trusted engine builder.
I'm sure you know the wrong gap or type of ring isn't what you want in your engine.

Pretty sure thats what they are, the cheap ones, dont know how a company could sell Forged Pistions, and rings so cheaply, and when i searched summit, they came up once, and had no information about the rings. Im going to contact CNC again to see if i cant get a pic of the rings, or if i can actually get some P/N off of them, if that doesnt work ill call up Total Seal. I wouldnt mind getting a different set of rings, if they are going to last longer and leak less.
