165 to 749 swap
Hay guys I am trying to dig stuff up on the 165 to 749 ECM swap . I am a little affraid to start doing it but ... I kinda have to if I wanna get the most out of my turbo setup.
couple of questions if you don;t mind....
Thats last chart posted has the pinouts on it and I am just trying to understand it. Under the 165 heading ( just picking a random thing)
CON Serial Data (ALDL E/M) (Orn) A8 A8 A8 A9
the pin on the ecm for 165 is A8 ..then to convert I would pull this wire out of the plug at that location and put it in the A9 slot ? What goes in the location I just pulled the wire out of ?
Here is another one
NC TCC (Tan/Blk) A7 A7 F6 F4
Acoording to the above legend ( in the document) it says NC = not connected . But would I still take the wire from the A7 location and move it to the f4 location ?
Thaxn for all the help on this . I wasn;t sure if I should have made a new post or not . This is one of them topics that start out with alot of confussion for me
thanx again

Later on in the wiring list you may find that something does go into the slot you just removed the wire from. In some cases nothing goes into that slot. The ALDL A8 pin and TCC pin are two examples of this.
Check the DIY-PROM board about losing TCC control.
You may find it easier to label all of the wires before removing them. I always keep a schematic with wire color handy just in case things go wrong like a case of good drinks stopping by or screaming from the better half.

So I am assumeing a 749 pinout diagram would solve my "where the heck is F "question.
Searching I will go .
thanx for the tip.
OMG I must have been tired when I wrote this . I ment it to be in the DIY PROM area ...or the ECM one . The one with the 165-749 stocky up top . I would appreciate it , if it could be moved please

The F and E thing is a 730 and 749 ECM thing.
The 165 has two connectors marked A,B,C,D on the backside where the wires push in
The 730 and 749 has three connectors marked A,B,C,D,E,F
If you look on the backside of the connector you will see the letter and the pin number.
These will be helpful if you don't already have the links.

I am also swapping from a 165 to 749/730 with 749 code this weekend or next week. I am first going to use M. Davis swap to 730 list and then swap a few pins to the 749 list. In truth, my vehicle will not need any of the 730 to 749 pin swaps. I can do the 165 to 730 pin swap and drop the $58 code right in. I don't have TCC or a magnetic VSS. I researched the IAC pin swapping last Fall and found it to be unneccessary.
