Rotrex supercharger
Rotrex supercharger
I've been tossing around the idea of turbo charging my iroc (87 tpi 350) for a senior mechanical engineering project, but I stumbled across these superchargers in an issue of hot rod. They claim to have the efficiency of a turbo. A supercharger seems like far less work than routing a turbo... The company has no direct kit for 3rd gen cars but for a hair over $2k you can pick up one of their units. which leaves only mounting, intercooling, and fuel management right... ahh yeah and switching from my stock v-belt, (or possibly machining a new v-pulley w/ the school's cnc stuff)
What do you think about it?

P.S. I can make scans of the hotrod article if anyone else is interested in it... It talks about a twin supercharged ls2 they have making 928 hp... which leads me to one final question... for a street driven car that occasionally see's the strip (looking for mid 12's) would one be enough? (sorry that got awfully wordy)

if you're only looking for mid 12s, then forced induction would be a expensive waste of money for you.
the only people i know of, including individuals ive read about online, supercharging V8s with rotrex superchargers is W2W and Katach.. everyone else using them has them on tiny 4bangers and V6s...

I looked into the rotrex a few years ago, and they have a very interesting supercharger unit.
The compressor housing on their biggest unit is only 6.5" in diameter so it is very compact.
It uses a 1:7.5 planetaray friction drive and very high impeller speeds.
The planetary rollers uses a patented load dependent contact pressure on the rollers, so it clamps the rollers harder together when more tourqe is transfers thru the gearbox.
Read thru the Thechnology pages on their site. It is interesting reading.
