Anyone running a Pyrometer gauge?
Was wondering if anyone here is running one of these gauges, or an EGT gauge and if so what kind of temps are you trying to tune with. I have already heard various debates on where to mount it but still wondering on where the temps should be at WOT blasts. It seem to be that anything above 1200F could melt a piston. Thanks in advance.

A Pyrometer is an EGT gauge. I don't have one in my Camaro yet, but my other car has one.
It runs around 1400 degrees at 85-90 mph and 4000 rpm's for hours and hours on end, no melted pistons yet.
I've seen over 1500 at WOT, no problems. I hear a danger point is over 1550-1600, but I haven't experienced that. The probe is located in the leanest cylinder's primary tube about 4" from the head.

I have read it's ideal to mount it closest to the head on the leanest cylinder but was wondering how off it would be downstream before the cat, also I have read on a few other forums that they wouldn't reccomend going above 1250F but you seem to have a different story, thanks.
