Should I change to a T56?

I have a '84Z28(street car) that goes 11.50's. It has a 357 sm. blk with a B&M (roots-style) superchager. I'm running a TH350 now, but miss shifting gears. Will a T56 handle the power and also will the car go faster. I heard that you lose 50 horsepower through the drivetrain with a automatic because of slippage. A stick-shift is more direct. I know about more breakage with the stick, but I have a 9" currie rear.
