calling all ATI owners
I'm gonna start my engine buildup very soon....i was planning on a turbo until i say some of the install and fabrication prices....so i'm going with an ATI...my question is.....which one? i want low 12's....its gonna be driving quite often.....hell if i hit high 11's that would be GREAT!!! Its gonna be a 355...probably with Vortec heads.....also...will the superram plenum bolt up to the Vortec TPI base?(when it comes out) or should i just keep the stock plenum port it...get the Vortec base with a nice set of runners? Whatever charger i choose i'm gonna get the 3-core intercooler......ATI sent me a VERY nice catelog for 88-92 TPI Fbody's....i just don't know which one to go with...of course i won't be getting it till next winter....but i want ideas now....thanks guys!

Depend how fast you want to go and if it will be a daily driver or not.Turbos are great but until someone comes up with a mass marketed kit for our cars,Im staying supercharged. If you want to go with the factory style manifold,go with a am aftermarket baseplate,Edelbrock is the cheapest, runners,Accel or edelbrock and a 52mm throttle body. This is my opinion on the heads,I like the AFRs,they are a little more than the vortechs, but their is no manifold to bolt up with these yet, dont hold your breath for it either. If you are going to rebuild the motor, and want to stay with the 350,go .030 over with a blower forged piston such as a TRW,the are cheap and dead reliable, and can handle lots of boost.some say they are a bit heavy, but this will only be a concern if the car is a 6500rpm motor, but that initself opens up a door of unending mods and money spent.Eagle makes good cheap rods either the 3d H beams,or the cheaper SIR rods, either will be more than able to handle what you are intending.Gm makes a 1053 steel crank for about $500,good deal and a good step above stock.Get a blower can to match,CompCams can help you select a cam by calling thier can help line, after you have finalized you combo and decided the specs.9 to 9.5 to 1 is right where you want to be in relation to compression.Good drivability off the boost and not to high to promote detonation under boost.Either the P1SC or the D1SC would be suited to your combo, the latter will handle upgradesd later if needed, but develops its boost later in the rpms than the P1SC.9-12LBs would be ideal, and you will definatly have to upgrade your fuel system.A intank 255lph would be sufficent.Injector size depends on what kind of programming you will go with, will you stay with the FMU or not depends on this as well.Let us know your intentions on what you want to do,good luck.P.S These are just my opinions,I have a 355 built that put down 400hp on motor alone at 9.1 compression. If you want to know the specs email me for details.

dude thanks for all the info...u pretty much explained everything i needed to know....i don't know if the car will be daily driven but it will be driven often....its just not gonna site in the driveway to look pretty thats for sure
Now since my car is an 89 its MAF....i MIGHT switch over to a DFI setup when the time comes....not sure yet....so with the vortec TPI base should a superram manifold and runners bolt up to it? The engine will be a 355...probably around 9.3:1....i should be fine running 12#'s of boost right....most likely with the 3-core intercooler...now....hypothetically....a 355 with a vortec heads superram intake a nice cam and 12#'s of boost....and a pro-built level 3 tranny are high 11's a reachable or am i hitting the crack pipe too hard?
Again man thanks for the info....it really helped!

No you arnt hitting the pipe to hard
I went 12.6 at 111mph in 96 with a bone stock Iroc 350 with a 9lb Prochager. You will definatly hit the 11s.You will just need traction with all that extra power.I dont know about the intake,I dont think its up for sale yet.I dumped my stock computer for a Electromotive Tec II.Im running Speed density, mass air can get expensive when you need to upgrade the meter, and speed density can read the boost directly.Just give us a hollar if you need to know some more,we will all try to help as much as we can
