guido...miniram question
guido...miniram question
as im sure everyone else experiences the torture of deciding between new engines, im stuck now. its totally going to be for street use, but *maby* a track run every now and then. i want the bulk of my power under 5k, just so i dont have to rev so high up to get to my real power range. so... right now im torn between a 383 by Beck Racing Engines(400hp and 450ft/lbs) and the MiniRam 350 from GMPP. i know the crate MiniRam comes with 50 less hp and ft/lbs torque, but this is also with vortec heads. would this engine happily put out 400hp with AFR heads and other 'small' mods? i know its picky, but i'd like to keep my peak torque around 3500-4k rpms, and my peak hp at 5500 or less. one day , given that i wind up with the EFI setup, i will get a turbo, but that is one day so for now i want sufficient power to get me happily around town. (btw, im aiming at low 13 sec et's)

First off, the mini ram 350 you talk about from GMPP, is the Ram Jet 350. Its totally different. It probably operates on the same concept as the mini ram, but to be honest, I have not checked it out. How it performs, where it makes power in the rpm range.
Id say if you are going to be driving it mainly on the street, and want a lot of torque under 5000, dont get it. Get a super ram or that 383. 383 are good for low end torque. You will spin the tires with ease.
