Burnout Video of the single turbo 383 Monte!
Guys, sorry for the high compression on the video side, but I wanted the sound in high quality so you could hear the turbo spooling up. We rode around in the monte for about an hour today after making this video. The car is a POS right down to body bushings and shocks, which he is going to fix.. but the outside of the car is going to remain in bomber mode. It sounds very mild at idle and not loud either.
Maximum boost is only 5 PSI and the car is already hard to keep on the road.. no lag whatsoever, and even at 30 or 40 mph it will just go sideways if you step into it! Of course it needs tires as it's just on regular old radials for now. Reminds me of my camaro when this engine was in it with the 8-71 and I had a set of 235/70 15's on it LOL..

Awesome car man. you can hear that sucker spool up REAL nice. How much horsepower do you think it has right now at 5 lbs/boost, and at the max boost it can take?

Nice.
Out of curiosity, how much money do you guys have into the turbo setup on that car, for the turbo unit, materials for the custom pipes, etc? Your videos are inspiring me, and I think I want to do something similar

He said the turbo can support a maximum of 800 hp. The engine has had over 22 pounds when we had it in my camaro with the 8-71. I would guess the power right now is around 450 max with 5 pounds. You should see the intercooler! It goes across the entire front of the car and so far the inlet temp DROPS with more boost.. 92 degrees at no boost, 86 at 5 pounds!
He has a ton of money tied up in the setup.. I know he had close to $10k between the engine and the 8-71.. 8-71 and carbs made up about $3500 of that.
The turbo, wastegate, stainless parts to make the exhaust, fel-pro injection, throttle body, intake & injectors - in the area of $5000 and he had to do all of the fabrication of the ex/in tubing himself.. not to mention the intercooler and fuel system! I'll stick with blowers for now till I get rich (which will never happen).

Sweet! Is he going to get a blow-off valve for it? You can really hear the turbo chuffing as soon as he closes the throttle. It's pretty brutal on the turbine, and gets it from 80,000 rpms to 0 pretty quickly.
