NOS Setup Question
NOS Setup Question
I just purchased a NOS from Edelbrock. It is a plate system for my 79 vette with a 350. It is a 50-100 hp kit, I plan to intall it in the spring. I am kicking around the idea of using it on my 2000 S-10 4.3L in the off season. Naturally it is my daily driver so I dont want to screw it up! Here is my plan: I am thinking of getting a nitrous fogger nozzel and putting it into beginning of the air intake. I would like to run a 25-50 hp shot. I would like to know if the electronics will be able to sence the changing air charge and richen the mixture and retard timing as needed. Would it be safe? If so how much of a shot could I do safely. What size jet would I need for 40-50-60..ect hp gains? Any info would be great. Thanks!
ok here we go. i run 100 shot on my internally stock 4.3. you only use nitrous at wide open throttle (open loop mode)in open loop the computer has no controll over the engine exept for timing. you must have a fuel source from your fuel solenoid to the nossle. from the fuel pressure test port in the fuel rail(from where mine is run from)that is where the extra fuel comes from, the jetting is the tricky part you ALWAYS wanna run a bigger fuel jet than nitrous jet.no different brand kit uses the exact same jet sizes(edelbrock, nitrous works, nitrous xpress, nos) so you have to kinda play with it.you may call edlebrock or nos and see what they recommend on jet sizes. and DO NOT go over 100 shot the stock fuel pump isn't bigg enuff to supply the added fuel for WOT and the added fuel for nitrous.
i will check tomorrow and let ya know what the jet sizes are for my nitrous works kit.

I dont want my installation to get complicated so I would rather not have to deal with supplying additional fuel. I want to know how much N2O I can run with having to inject fuel as well. How much can you run and and have the stock fuel system compensate for? Also I dont want a 100 hp shot putting extra strain on my drivetrain because I would like to get a lot of miles out of my truck as well. Thanks for all your help!
a tip to go by...more hp = more strain, plain and simple, although, i believe i remember reading that upto the whereabouts of a 100hp is pretty safe to have if you dont mess with the fuel system. dont believe that changing the amount of fuel your engine injects when you hit the switch is all complicated, its not, you just need to research a bit more, read some articles on the subject(nitrous) and talk to some sales reps from edelbrock, NOS, nitrous express, or whatever... and if they sound like they are feeding you BS, call somewhere else. I had a guy tell me once i could run a 250hp shot easy, all day long on my 383... without me having told him anything about the fuel system or bottom end(type of pistons, etc), i wanted to kick him in the teeth for trying to lie to me
I did talk to Edelbrock tech, a Ramchargers performance shop and now this board so I am getting as much info as possible. Edelbrock said 50 would be safe but it was like pulling teeth (phone calls are recorded for quality purposes so bad advise wont be givin ;o)} The Ramchargers guy said he had install the same kinda rig on 3 4.3's and was getting around 70 - 90 hp with no problems. I want to stay on the safe side with around 50hp. He said a 47 jet (cant quite remember) would give me about that much. Does that sound right? I have a adjustable kit with jets ranging from 38-57 or something like that. Maybe start in the 30's and work my way up to the 40's? Can in interchange the fuel and nitrous jets? Is there a difference? Thanks a ton for all your advice!
