N20 and high compression

Im currently running .180 domed pistons in my 355, and was considering the NOS super power shot. would I have to retard more timing due to the higher compression. What other problems would could any foresee. My ignition is all MSD including 6a box and probillet distributer. The cam is the Edelbrock Performer RPM which is pretty big.I almost forgot I'm currently running a set of pocket ported 931 iron headswithch gives me about 10.5to 1 compression. Please Help.

Sorry fo the horrible grammer in above post. Would my Holley mechanical fuel pump be good enough or would it be time for an upgrade.

dont know much on NOS(yet) but do know this...nos and high compression is possible but, that compression shouldnt be tooo much of a prob people run 13:1 compression and nos alll the time!!(my friends doing it!) i think you just re-jet and supply more fuel i think!!? email me at

burnoutrpm@hotmail.com and let me in on what you find out!

You should be fine with around 10:1. Things don't usually get too hairy until over 14 or 15:1 and then finding fuel with high enough octane becomes a factor. also the heat and pressure get harder to handle. I do know a guy that has run 16:1 compression with big shots of nitrous for over two seasons with no problems.

combustion is more efficient with higher compression ratios & higher cylinder pressure. More efficient combustion requires less spark advance to make maximum power. The same holds true for N2O.

You will just need to run a little less advance depending on how lean you run and how much N2O you use.

Less advance does NOT mean less power.
