Help me convince parents to let me get Iroc!!!!!
Help me convince parents to let me get Iroc!!!!!
I don't really know if this is in the right section but it is all about power and performance.
I am torn between an 89 Iroc with a 406 and Any RS 5 speed 89-92. I really want the Iroc but it doesn't pass smog (doesn't have smog system at all wonder if that could be the reason
) well if I buy that then I am going to have to put a hole new smog system in it. But man does that thing hall a**. On the other hand I could get an RS and start moding it. Just wondering I know it would be cheaper to add a smog system to the Iroc then adding higer rearend gears, posi and getting the engine to make at least 300 Hp but would it be worth it. I have already answer this question for myself (IROC all the way) but my parents want me to get a Rs that doesn't need any thing done to get it on the road leagally, and then start working to get it faster. Can anyone give me a cost est. on what it would cost to add higer rearend gears, posi and getting the engine to make at least 300 Hp. Then I could show this to the parents and it might convince them. also how much do you guys think it would cost for a complete smog system?
Sorry for making this so long but I want the Iroc so bad and have to convince the parents.
PS If anyone in S. Cali has a nice performing Camaro (V8, stick shift) for sale less than $8000 email me please I might just buy it.

if you are building a race car then buy the 406. if you are going to drive it on the street buy the RS. it could cost you thousands of $$$'s to get the 406 street legal. Yea i know there are guys that know guys that know a guy, but all it takes is one time & bam car gone, game over. you might have to install a complete motor into it, so that it will pass. where are you going to find a complete motor with all the smog stuff on it that works? answer, in another car. so now you have two cars. Hmmmmmmmm, sounds like you have a race car & a driver. works for me.

I think a major factor here is that you live in California, which is the most stringent state when it comes to emissions. I would shy away from the IROC-Z. Yes, you could install all the smog equipment, but that does not insure that you will pass emissions. You could be in for a disappointment.
Go with the RS that needs nothing for starters. BTW, I have a 1992 RS for sale. It needs absolutely nothing. It's a 305 TBI, 5-speed, t-top car with all power options. It's all original except for the 1992 gray custom cloth seats. I had it repainted the original metallic teal six months ago and it's been stored since.
Where in Southern California do you live. I'm in Tucson which is only 400 miles (~5 hours) from San Diego and about 500 miles from LA (~7 hours). If you're interested, please e-mail me. I've got pics too if you want to see it.

Ok I think I will go with the RS
Can anyone give me an Idea how much it would cost to get the 5.0 to make 300hp and to put on like 3.26s of 3.42 posis. What would that cost including labor.
Thanks

I bet that there is a smog legal centryfugal (sp, to early to spell) blower out there that will get you where you want to go (or darn close to it). & the gears & a good posi are a great idea (specially if you are going to make some real HP). nothing a real racer recognises faster than some bozo out there spinning one 195-50R15 instead of two 250-60R15's.
