PLEASE HELP
if there is anyone who can give me any advise on what to do to my second car i just bought. It is a turbocharged 2.2L mazda 626 gt the thing is that it is faster than my camaro (for now anyways). Anyways I was asking if there is anything I can do to make it faster without having to pay a $25 mazda club membership. I dont know anything about turbos but can I change the pulley on the turbo to add boost? any idaes on mods to a 1990 mazda 626 would be helpful thanks

Now I ain't no rocket scientist, but I'm pretty darn sure there isn't a pulley on your turbocharger. Turbochargers run off of the exhaust pulses using an exhaust turbine to turn the compressor turbine that forces air into the engine. I think you've got it confused with a supercharger which runs off of the engine's "fan" belt. I don't know anything about mazda's but if you look under the hood and locate the turbo or supercharger, if there is a belt running it it's a supercharger andyou could probably raise the boost with a smaller pulley, if it's a turbo with a whole bunch of exhaust tubing surrounding it then it's a turbo and you might be able to adjust the boost via a wastgate.
I think you'd be best off to find a site similar to this but for mazdas. I'm sure they exist.
Good luck

Thanks i know it is turbo and there is something surrounding the exhaust manifolds, does anyone know what I can do. I found a mazda web site that is similar to this one but they charge $25 in membership fees. Thanks nonetheless

Contact www.Turbocity.com. You will probably need to buy a MSD ignition boost retard. To retard your timing when running more boost. We did that on my brothers Daytona turbo and unhooked the vacuum control on the wastegate and it would run 15psi and flat out FLY. Makes those FWD cars hard to handle but kicked all sorts of rustang butt with it.
Thankx again for the input, I did write them a email and hopefully they will be getting back to me with some good info. Does anyone else have any info that might help me ?

From what I've heard the best and easiest way to get more power from a stock turbo car is to get an electronic boost controller. Most factory boosted cars are set to a maximum pressure that is well below what the factory injectors and ECU can support. A boost controller will let you adjust your max boost pressure manually from within the car. Your Mazda has the same drivetrain as the 89-91 turbo Probes, I've heard someone makes an ECU upgrade that will raise your max boost pressure and add about 80 hp, but you MUST use at least 92 octane fuel all the time. If you can't find a good Mazda site, look for a turbo Probe site.
