I have questions about N2O on a 305 TPI
I have questions about N2O on a 305 TPI
We were street racing down at the old drag way about 45 mins from where I live. It is the end of the summer and we are putting cars away soon so we had the best turn out I have ever seen. Well over 100 cars and continuous running all day.
My car is back to a single track 3.42 and it ran like a titan. I was VERY impressed.....last time I was there I got beat by everything including a stick saturn. I had a hell of a time getting traction.
This weekend I would launch from dead idle and I would spin for a bit and the the car would jump and hook up like I have never seen. I whooped a 99 GSR that was all done up and a 95 Del Sol with a GSR motor in it.
Here is the question!!!
I ran my buddy and lost to his 305 by a fender but he has a lot of stuff done to his and he can rev to 6500. I beat my other buddy running his 86 Z28 5sp but we ran again to see how I would stack up agains the nitrous and all I can say is damn!!!! He hit it in 3rd and pulled 2 car lenghts on me by the end. I am thinking I would like to put a light shot on but I don't know how much and what to get. I was thinking a 50 or 75 hp shot so I don't hurt anything. I need to hear form the experts on this.
I also saw beat to hell datsun run a 12 sec civic and eat him by about 3 1/2 lenghts. I have NEVER seen a street car move that fast. He had a 400 small black and a $hit load of Nitrous powering it. He had street slicks and didn't even spin....you couldn't even hear when he switched gears. He was soooo fast he was running with the street bikes (ZX9's)
I need cheap and easy speed!

Stay between 100-125 HP,take out a few degrees of timing and run one step colder plug. Make sure that your fuel and ignition systems are in good working order to be safe.
First off buy an NOS nitrous system and do exactly as they tell you in the manual. The reason I say buy an NOS system is they started us all out in the nitrous industry. I hav an NOS kit on my 92 Z28 (350 TPI) and I love it, Never had a problem YET!! Alot of people might argue that they run their fuel jets a little on the rich side but for the mega power increase that it will give you, you can sacrafice a few extra ponies instead of a few pistons.
Thanks for the info......I was wondering about the richness factor. I want to make more power but i don't want to chence something blowing up. I just need that extra car lenght and I will be happy. My buddy runs a nos kit and when he had his 305 with slicks he ran 12.88 which seems damn good for a stock 305.
even if you don't want to- just to let you know I ran about 17-18 bottles of nitrous through my fairly stock TPI 305- stock fuel and spark, (stock plugs even) at a big 150 HP shot and the car ran as it had been bought from the show room floor...even to this day its got 72,000 miles on it and I sold it to a friend and its still an amazing runner and smokes WS6 trans ams and SS camaros under the bottle.
