Can a blowoff valve be added to a centrifugal supercharger, and if yes how will it help?

Vortech uses them on thier LS1 kits for F body's. from what I know they serve 2 purposes for turbo cars. first is that that they keep the turbo spooled up (or semi spooled up) when you are between gears & when you slam the throttle shut. & second they protect everthing between the output of the compressor & the Throttle blade from exsessive presssure when you slam the throttle blade shut @ full boggie.

I dont see that the spooling thing is an issue, but it will prevent the overpressure issue, which can break belts & bend throttle blades.

it also helps make your blower live longer by
reducing pressure whin not at WOT.like slowing down from 6000 rpm.
also keeps heat from building up in the discharge tube.

oh boy here we go again....

there are two different things:

1) a blow off valve

2) a bypass valve

most blowers use BYPASS VALVES that are simply vacuum operated butterflies that close under boost to keep boost in the motor and release when not in boost to bypass all the extra air

a blow off valve is used in the same manner except when you let off the gas and there is excess boost in the intake track it opens a spring loaded valve that releases the boost....you can usually adjust the spring for what boost level you want it to open at
