Nitrous and performance chip

I was always set on getting an Ed Wright custom fast chip, because first, I believed I'd see the most power gain, and plus, I could run it with nitrous. I had always been under the impression that you couldn't run an aftermarket performance chip with nitrous because of spark advance and all..now, I was at the track and a guy had a 305 TPI with a 100 shot, and he had a JET Stage II chip in, and he had NO problems! Is this a fluke, or what?

Every situation is different but generaly speaking, If the advance curve is optimized and no detonation already exists then you usually don't need to retard (reduce advance) until around 150 HP of nitrous or more. Then around 1°-2° retard for each 50 HP of nitrous is the norm (ex, a 200 HP shot might like around 4°-8° retard.)

Since you already have an MSD 6A, install a high speed retard box, such as an MSD 8982. Then you can run the proper advance on and off the nitrous. Works for me.

I have a crappy hypertech chip but I pull timing with my msd. I have ran nitrous both ways though.

I am running a Hypertech chip in my car with 100 hp nitrous, and have had no problems. With the nitrous in use I back off the initial timing to 2 deg BTDC, rather than the usual 6 deg BTDC.

I have Msd Adjustible timing control. I hope this will do the trick when I use Nos next time with the new chip.
