how do vortec heads compare to phase 2 bowties?

both are affordable 64cc iron heads. And i know how much everyone raves over the vortec heads, in fact i have a set in waiting, but the opportunity to get a set of worked phase 2's has come along. Are they gonna put the vortec's to shame? The only drawback of going with the bowties instead of the vortecs is that i'm gonna need to rethink my intake/EFI setup. I was gonna do GM Ramjet, but that only bolts up to the vortecs and fast burns.

So, in your opinions, are the bowties worth swapping around plans for.

if you're wondering....what the hell does this have to do with power adders, the car has a paxton charger on it.

it will continue to have it on the new motor, and obviously the better heads are to my advantage.

They are both good heads. The vortecs outperform the bowties out of the box especialy with the same valve size.
The bowties are cast with lots of meat
in the port walls to let you port them. The vortecs have great throttle response and torque, and can be ported to around 265cfm.
The bowties can be ported to almost 300 cfm.
Therefore they have the ultimate power advantage. I'd get those bowties flow tested before I bought them and then see where you're at and what it will cost to hit your
goals. That ramjet FI is pretty smooth.
How about ported Fastburns or the new E-Tec's
with the Ramjet EFI...

i could be dead wrong.. but i dont believe they can flow near 300. a ported ls1 head which is leagues beyond nearly any older style sb head flows just over 300cfm. just my 2c, but like i said, i could be out in left field, let me know

The bowties are pretty conservetive on flow out of the box, because they were cast with thick port walls. That way race teams were not stuck with what GM thought was the ultimate port. They could grind em up their way and get good numbers. Takes a professonal
porter and a flow bench but they can get up that high. The Ls1 head is a good flowing head but not that good out of the box. But shops are getting big numbers after porting.
Keep in mind the injector fills the roof of the cathedral shaped port so these heads should be flowed with the injectors in place or the numbers will look optimistic.
Note: I found a chart from ELGIN CAMS
Ported bowtie Phase 6 castings 292 cfm@.700
28"
