Converting to intercooled twin turbo's...
I have made the decision to join the forced induction ranks, and convert my SBC 427 over to intercooled twin turbo's.
If any of you have seen the latest edition of Popular Hot Rodding, I am building a setup very similar to John Meaney's twin turbo C4 Corvette. I spoke with Precision Turbo about his setup and they said that he's running two PT-52's. However, the machinist I use, Jeff D'Agostino at Fast Times Motorworks (co-owner with Chuck Samuels who was mentioned in the article) told me John Meaney told him he wished he had gone with larger turbo's. I guess he said the PT-52's spooled up quickly on his SBC 400, but they are too small on the top end. My motor is very similar to the motor in the article - tall deck Rocket block, 18* heads, custom Hogan's aluminum sheetmetal manifold, Speedpro/F.A.S.T. sequential EFI with wideband O2 and incdividual cylinder control.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with running two PT68-1's (or similar)on the street with a larger motor, like my SBC 427. Turbonetics recommended a pair of their T66 turbo's at 20lbs of boost with between 8:1 and 9:1 compression. Both Precision and Fast Times recommended staying closer to 8:1 compression. I can't help but think that with 8:1 compression, the car will be a dog until it starts making boost.
The car is scheduled to go to TRZ Motorsports the first week of January, so time is getting short before I ahve to make a final decision on exactly which turbo's to go with.
Thanks.

well you gotta remember that Turbo Regals had 7.96 compression from the factory and even with a laggy turbo and only 231" they get off the line pretty quick
now lets get to you:
you have almost TWICE the inches which will keep exhaust velocity high and spool to a minimum
if you want, here's another company to check out. Call and talk to Rick Head...great guy and great to talk to. Very knowledgable and kinda started this turbo craze with the spetters and DaSilva a few years ago and he has his turbos on some of the fastest things around.

lol.....151mph and 1300hp and Meaney says NO TOP END!?
hold on...cant breathe right now
You know i only live about 10 minutes from park ridge, i'd really like to check out your ride one day if you dont mind.

89Procharged,
You're welcome to come by anytime, just let me know. Email me if you'd like.
Thanks for the perspective. I was actually talking to Gary at Street Performance yesterday. He's pretty big around here with the Turbo Buick guys and he said the same thing you did.

Xfire,
Sure, just send me an email and let me know when you'll be in town. I'll give you my number.
Kev90,
What info are you looking for. I researched this for quite a while before I started writing checks. Maybe I can help, or at least point you in the right direction.
