Either will do the trick. Both will bring the mpg down.

honestly for the cost vs power, its not worth it with your tbi 305.

on your stock motor you will have to up the octane or get detonation. for boost you want a low compression motor

On a stock 1987 IROC 305 TPI we put a single turbo ( Holset HX50 ) and a front mount intercooler. We only installed larger injectors on the engine and changed the tuning in the chip. To get away with the stock compression we converted to Ethanol (E85). We only used about 12 psi boost because the stock ingnition could not handle any more.

With a th400 and the stock 2.73 rear it ran 105 mph in the 1/4 mile and that translates to about 350 rwhp. The stock engine has 190 crank hp.
