Help me build my motor... blown small block
Thinkin about a carb'd blown small block setup.. typical blower out the hood type deal. seems old fashioned, but thats what I want haha. Anyways, looking to have a revver with the blower mounted ... wouldnt mind going dual carbs with a 6-71. Any tips on a parts list and what not? Cam specs? What heads are good for a blower? Would like to make at least 600hp... willing to spend some decent coin on it... just looking for advice before I go talk to an engine builder buddy of mine and we start ordering stuff.. want to have an idea what i shold be looking for.
i want no computer or anything in my car... what about using the stock fuel tank and getting fuel? currently its an 86 iroc that had a 305 in it but now has a 350tpi from a vette, which is coming out. no computer/electronics is preferred... just gauges/starter/alternator/basics. let me know what u guys think.

If you want it to rev I'd spend most of the cash on valvetrain. Beehive springs, titanium retainers, maybe some sodium filled or titanium valves and shaft mount rockers too if you can afford 'em. What kind of rpms are you looking to reach?
I'd probably ditch the stock fuel system all together and run a fuel cell w/ larger lines and a mechanical pump since you are ditching everything else electrical.
If you select the cam/ compression ratio/ blower ratio for high rpm's you will probably end up having to cruise around @ 2500rpm just to keep the engine running smoothly. More cubes and/or smaller cam will improve the low end just like running NA, you'll still have to live w/ a big cam if you want to turn the higher rpms.

383 SBC w/ 5.565" 400 rods (stock w/good rod bolts), scat crank, speedpro dished pistons, Dart Iron Eagle 215cc heads, CompCAMS NitrousHP 284 cam, dual 650 holley carbs modified by myself and a friend, GMC 6-71 blower rebuilt by Hampton Blowers, aeromotive fuel system, bds stuff etc.
Ran pretty damn good and revved up real quick.. had I known eagle made a 4340 5.565" rod I would have bought that and used it.
if you want to save money look on ebay for a complete 6-71 blower. I tend to stay away from B&M blowers. The Blower Shop makes good blowers, Hampton Blowers is great, and there is another that sells rebuilt blowers but I forget the name.
I bought alot of stuff from gofaststuff.com for my turbo car and the 68..got a excellent deal on it.
As for the fuel tank, yes you can use your original fuel tank but buy all aeromotive stuff. I had their "street rod" fuel pump.. if needed I'm sure I can dig up receipts/part #'s.

if you could get me a list of everything and part numbers I will probably go that route as I was thinking of a blown 383 or motown 427 as it is

oh yea, and thanks
thats exactly what im looking for haha. whats the estimated cost do you think for everything';

do you REALLY want a list of *everything*? LOL.. I wasnt expecting you to actually want the complete list. Are you going to build a blown 383 like mine? The reason I went w/5.565" rods was because I didnt want to pay $600 for JE pistons. If you're willing to go that route you'll have to do the looking for that on your own (for the part # on that piston) and then buy the 5.7" Eagle rods (for piece of mind u can get the L19 rod bolt upgrade)
If you want to build the exact one then swap out my crank and rods.. get eagle's 4340 crank and their 5.565" rods then buy the speedpro dished pistons. I kept whatever rings came with it. My headgaskets were .61 thick and were copper. block was o-ringed. The heads were your ordinary run of the mill Dart Iron Eagle 215cc heads (72 or 74cc.. I dont remember..but its either one..not the 64cc). ARP everything from the rods to the intake, water pump etc. The 650DP carbs seemed a little small and I would of swapped out to 750's had I kept the car. The dual carb plate, you can use either one, weiand's or bds. Use ebay for the carb linkage, hat (please dont run the Mr. Gasket hat, it is cheap looking and really looks like junk) and whatever else.
BTW, the other shop that has good rebuilt blowers is Supercharger USA. Mine was off of a old 18 wheeler or something.. I forget..it was a large bore GMC 6-71.
I need to look at my spreadsheet at the house but I think I had about $8k-$11k in the complete setup including ignition and fuel system.. I think.. email me and I can send you the spreadsheet because on there I have alot of part #'s/part names of what I bought.
