Got a question. Need opinions.
Hey guys/gals...
As my sig says, I have a 91 Camaro RS L03. I've had this car for about 4 years now and I have finally started building up an engine for it. Here is my ORIGINAL plan...
383 (2-bolt late 80's/early 90's roller block converted to 4-bolt) AFR 195cc heads, 10.5:1, miniram, steel crank/rods, forged pistons, Comp XFI280 cam, Commander 950.
Well, due to cash limitations (just got married), the machine shop has only done the basic machine work on the block (4-bolt conversion, lined-bored and honed the mains) so I am still open to making changes. I have since decided to change the direction of the project.
Im thinking about building the 383 with 9:1 compression. Why? So I can install a D1SC Procharger on it later. I was thinking that I can build it this way, put some miles on it, and then put the Procharger on it. I talked to Comp Cams and ATI and they both feel that this can work, same cam and all. ATI thinks that the cam is a GREAT blower cam. So does my engine builder. So does CompCams.
What do you guys think? Im open to serious opinions. Hell, I havent even ordered the crank yet (I do have rods though) so I can make changes at any time.
Im finally recovering financially from the wedding and Christmas so the money will be looking good REAL SOON! And the wife is in FULL SUPPORT of the Camaro project.
Again, serious opinions ONLY. Thanks in advance!
Oh, I have built this combo NORMALLY ASPIRATED in Desktop Dyno. If anyone wants to see the dyno file, let me know and I will email it to you.
Again, THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

get a good crank, and the compression at 9:1 with some 76cc heads would do a procharger good.
and i would have a custom grind camshaft made specifically for your application... you will be happier in the long run

The cam specs...
Advertised duration= 280/288
Duration @ .050= 230/236
Lift w/ 1.6 rockers= .567/.570
Lobe separation angle= 113 degrees
Not good enough for a blower?

Is the car a driver or a toy? That cam will be just big enough that you’ll have issues dialing it in perfectly with compression that low, and I don’t think that you’ll be happy with it as a driver without more compression. OTOH, as a street strip toy, it’s not half bad.
Those XFI lobes make me wonder about long term durablility, but that's a totally seperate issue
