Hello,I found all of the pieces I need to fab my 3.1 bird and make her a nasty bird lol!!! anyway all I have to do now is finish installing all of the parts but does anybody know how much horsepower can i expect from my bird because I heard that by adding turbo it gives you 200+ horse on top whatever your car has ?so should I have like 300hp something help me guys??????????????????

 

ah i remember 16.... no it wont just give you 300 horse and it cant just be bolted on. and it needs to be sized correctly for your engine as i wouldn't expect a turbo off of a power-stroke to ever spool on a 3.1 and something for a 1.8L would also be useless as you would be exceeding its capabilitys...
then you also need to be able to tune your new setup which wont run on the stock tune at all... you also cant just run 25 psi on a stock bottom end and expect it to hold up with a decent tune never mind no tune.

 

With a stock tune and 6psi, you should be able to keep up with a 350 (if not beat it). It takes a lot of work to build a custom turbo system, Daves12secV6 has them for sale as a kit. Click on my link in the signature below and see what all it takes (this is being done in my driveway ).

 

Well, it's like asking someone how long a piece of string is without showing them the string! It could be any number, any number at all! A poor running 150bhp, an honest 250bhp, all the way up to an insane 800bhp or more. It all depends on the parts you put in, the fabrication, the tuning..... the whole package really. Try to firm up in your mind what you would like and how much you can afford. Then speak to Daves12secV6, firstfirebird and all the others to get the appropriate advice.

I'm very impressed by those who go down this route and do it properly. But, please be aware that it will not be easy and WILL cost more money than you think it will.

 

i can give u a good idea, i just dynoed a stock 2.8 and made 237 rwhp @6 psi
thats an increase of over 125hp at the wheels, would have been more but i found a slight hole in the intercooler i had 6 psi in the manifold and 9/10 psi at the intercooler inlet.mind u this was on an untuned motor with nothing more then 24# injectors

the 60* v6 motors respond excellent to boost

 

237rwhp from the 2.8 is a pretty damn good number when you think of it. I applaud those who do something other than the norm.
